Show and Tell Friday

OK - Somebody turn the faucets off !!! Another day of rain, another one for tomorrow and chance it won't end til Sat. AM. :(

On the bright side - it is time for Show and Tell hosted by Cindy @ My Romantic Home http://romantichome.blogspot.com/. Thanks Cindy for hosting this weekly event.

My contribution this week is a real "blast from the past". I was going to say - remember when we all had those clutch bags covered in beads and sequins that we carried out in the evening to parties, weddings, etc.. But then I thought - No, many of the bloggers out there are not old enough to remember them. :-) Well, I AM old enough! (there I said it) :-) What you are about to see are 2 of mine that I have kept all these years - from the mid 60's. These were hard to photograph because of the light reflecting off of them.
The basic white -

Photobucket
And the basic black -
Photobucket
These little beauties attended many evening events and hold many memories. Neither one has been used in many years, but I don't have the heart to get rid of them.
That is my contribution to "Show and Tell". Be sure and visit Cindy to see what she and the other participants have to share this week.

Now - off to see if Susan @ "Thoughts From Over the Rainbow" got the Ark out of drydock for us, and to see what food and drink provisions I need to bring along! :-D
Have a great weekend!
Glenda

Raining here again, too. Flash floods, in MO and IL.

  5. Ah yes I remember them! I had one for so many years and I finally gave it to my daughter. There was a lock of her baby hair in it and a silver dollar for each one of my children's births. It was funny to see the three "different" silver dollars. One was real silver, one was silver coloured and one was smaller than the other two. I kept those mementoes for years.

  7. Oh yes, I do remember those bags and I still have a couple that I can't seem to part with either. It was the sort of thing that no lady left without. I also remember when I had a closet full of long dresses to wear with all those pretty purses. Great memories. Your purses are gorgeous, I would keep them too. Thanks also for stopping by and leaving such kind comments. I really appreciate it. Hugs, Marty

  8. Oh you must keep them! And honey, put some glad rags on, and take one of those gorgeous vintage bags, and go paint the town red. Young women pay big bucks for those bags in vintage stores!

I still have my first beaded bag -- a black one, with a long chain strap that has long since broken and been replaced by a twisted silk cord. I bought it in 1969 to take to a Christmas party - I was still in high school! I have used it ever since then, and my daughters have borrowed it more times than I care to remember. I even have the original box. I think it cost me 20-dollars -- a fortune for a high school student in '69!
My Mom didn't let me borrow her evening bags!
thanks for reviving some lovely memories and showing off those stunning little bags.

  9. Oh Glenda, they are beautiful. I don't think you should part with them. I think I have some similar to these. I'm going to have to go on a hunt to find them. Have a great weekend, in spite of the rain, and you and Susan save a spot for me on the ark! laurie

  11. Hi Glenda,
The bags are beautiful. My mother had some that were very similar. She passed away several years ago, but the bags are still in the cedar chest in the house I grew up in (where my father grew up and still lives). We obviously don't like getting rid of things in our family (I have the dress she wore on their wedding day and the ones she wore to my wedding and to my brother's).

Anyway, glad you kept yours. So glad you shared them today ... and brought back memories of seeing my parents all dressed up and headed to the country club for parties.

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend. I agree ... enough with the rain for a while!

Thanks for visiting! I love the handbags. I have a blue beaded little purse that my Grandmother carried. It has a little chain to carry it instead of the clutch style. It is only decor now, as some of the beads are loose.
I also saw your birdcage metamorphosis. LOVE IT!!!!
    Thanks for sharing.

  30. Dear Glenda,
I have always collected vintage purses. I love them.
NOW WITH THIS NEXT STATEMENT I HOPE TO OFFEND NO ONE...IT IS JUST FROM A MOTHER'S LOVE AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE A BEAUTIFUL PURSE IN THE SAME WAY.
when my precious Amy passed(just 6 1/2 days ago) I had to put a purse in her casket with her because she never went any where without a purse but usually the purse she carried was bigger than her.
I found in my collection a gorgeous vintage sasha pleated clutch and her best friend and I put in very special things and layed it by her hands. It looked so beautiful and I know it made her happy.
please do not get rid of your purses or send them to someone who will always treasure them like me!

    Love
    Debbie
