Remember When & Emerald Green Glassware

Anyone (besides me) remember when boxes of oats, detergent, etc., would have a little extra in the container? I do (telling my age here)! I remember a tiny little plate came in the detergent my Mother bought, and I claimed them - think I had 2 or 3 at one time. I don't remember it being called a "butter pat", but that might have been what they were - to small for much else. Don't have a clue, as to what ever happened to them. Remember these dishes that came in boxes of oats? I do (there goes that age thing again)! I don't have any from growing up, but these were given to me several years ago. I always thought the emerald green glass was so pretty and at one time thought about starting a collection. Did a little checking around and research on ebay, and at that time they were a little pricey, so dropped the idea. Checked on ebay again, several weeks ago to see what kind of price it was getting, and did not see any listed. I really don't have room for a collection of it now. Anyway, I use these little pieces in different ways around the kitchen. The tallest bowl (ice cream or sherbert bowl maybe?), I use for artificial sweetner packets now. None of the pieces are very big. At one time I knew the name of the glassware, but I have drawn a blank.

The little plates are only 4 1/2ins. in diameter - maybe a butter plate (?). They are both the same size, even tho 1 looks smaller in the photo. It may be a saucer, but I don't remember ever seeing a little cup that would match. If anyone knows anything about this glassware and/or what each piece would have been used for, would love to hear your comments.

Was out and about earlier today, and noticed how many of the Bradford Pear and redbud trees
were in bloom, and the forsythia bushes were starting to bloom. Had planned to go back out and take pictures, but it is raining now and cold. We have had temps in the high 60's & low 70's off and on lately - however, today it is in the 30's with snow in the forecast for this afternoon and
tonight, with below freezing temps the next couple of nights. There goes the pretty blooms! :-(

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Old Cemetery in Franklin & An Observation

While in Franklin, I did a little roaming around, just taking random pictures. Cemeteries are sad places, yet there is so much beauty there. I happend up on this one - Rest Haven. A very old one - established in l855. There were many beautiful monuments, some very worn by the elements, and it was hard to read names and dates and some not at all. How sad that many children died so young. These are some of the pictures I took.

As you can tell by the brillant blue of the sky, the weather was gorgeous that day - low to mid 70's I think, and was like that every day I was there. This was my welcome written by my hostess, on an antique, school slate board. :-)

A little observation on my part - When I started blogging in Nov. 2008, I thought I was a "new kid". But then I started noticing how so many others started blogging around the same time I did. Was there something in the Air ?!?! :-)

Off to find some lunch. Hope everyone is having a great day.

Rusty Metal

Since I feel a little rusty around the edges today (nasty head cold! :-( )Thought I would post some pictures I took while in Franklin, TN last Fall. When there, went to many shops and this one had rusty architectural pieces, metal garden decor. and arbors - just lots of rusty metal.

The side of one of the buildings - Lots of rusty stars.

A lot of very ornate window/mirror or just for looks frames ?? Check out the pink dress form on the right - they had some painted white also. Thought I had a picture of several of them together, but could not find the picture.

Lots of garden decor. I have a picture of a huge section of garden/outdoor items, but I don't know that the people that ended up in the picture, would like me putting their picture on my blog.

I would like to thank Barb @ Bella Vista for giving me the "Sisterhood Award". She has a beautiful blog, and from the looks of the pictures of her home, she is very talented at home decorating. When you have the time, pay her a visit - you will be glad you did. http://barbsgoodlife.blogspot.com/

Thanks again Barb.

Had some homemade beef and veggie soup, another dose of advil and cough med. and am keeping the box of kleenex very close by. I don't know who shared their germs, but they won't be getting a "thank you" from me. :) My daughter said their cat even has a cold, sneezing, sleeps with his mouth open, drippy nose (yuk). Does anyone know what you can give a cat for a cold, (or could possibly be allergies)? This crazy weather does not help - 70's one day, freezing the next. Not bad today - in the 50's and sun shining.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

A Trash to Treasure and A Big Thank You

A Trash to Treasure: Another one of those many moons ago stories. :-). Back in the 80's, this floor lamp was bought for $2(if I remember correctly), from someone who had it in their storage shed. It had been painted white, which had turned yellow and was peeling. Got it cleaned up, but most of the paint would not come off, so painted it with flat black paint and it has been a fixture in my home since. The height of the light part can be adjusted. I have had different kinds of shades on it over the years, and the lampshade on it now is one I got from my daughter at her garage sale.

A Big Thank You: Four ladies with wonderful blogs, have given me awards. I hope they do not think I am ungrateful, since I have not posted them on my blog. ETA: For those that asked about my tooth - Don't know how that tooth feels any more, but I do know my mouth feels a lot better. :-) It was a molar way back in the back, already full of filling and could not be saved. :(

I don't like to paint! & A Recycled Sewing Mach. Base

I DO NOT Like to paint!! I REALLY DO NOT like to paint! I am not good at painting! I decided to clean out my kitchen cabinets where the dishes are kept. The insides are wood - not painted, except one section, and I have no clue why. It needed a fresh coat of paint (I do not like to paint), and I decided to go ahead and paint while I had the dishes out. It is done and I can mark that off of my "to do list". :-) Still don't like to paint!

Upteen dozen years ago (in the 70's) I made a table out of an old sewing machine base, like many other people did. In the beginning, I had an old butcher block (the real deal) for the top. It was 2 inches thick, and VERY heavy - came out of an old restaurant, or so was told. I finally got tired of lifting it when I wanted it moved, so sold the butcher block in a garage sale (couple bought it and was thrilled to get it), and kept the base. After moving here, I needed a table to go behind the love seat, so painted a piece of MDF board, added molding around the edge, and WaLa! A new top. I need a change - Do I paint the top (black maybe), or replace it with a real table?

THERE IS THAT 'PAINT' WORD AGAIN!

They are prediciting a possibility of severe weather tonight and early tomorrow! :( Sure hope it misses us.

Hope everyone is having a great day. Did I mention, I DO NOT like to paint.

ETA: Oh My Word! I have had my sofa and loveseat 10+ years, and just now noticed (in the picture), the stripes do not line up on the skirt(?) on the back! Ooops!
