Birdcage Anyone?

I was not looking for a birdcage when I went to the antique mall last weekend, but they just seem to jump out at me. :-) This one, I would love to have. It would be so pretty painted white, but the price tag kept me from bringing it home - $225.
Photobucket
This one was $45, and is similiar to one I already have.. I think I paid $12 for mine at Kirkland's many years ago, and it was new.
Photobucket
Would this one not look so much better painted white? $75Photobucket
This one got my attention - marked down to $3, and it came home with me. :) Photobucket
And, I could not leave this one behind - it was $5.Photobucket The 2 that I got are 13ins. tall, so won't take up a lot of room. Took the faux ivy off of the white one and had planned to give it a new paint job this weekend, but the wind is blowing oak tree squiggles (?) every where and they would have landed in the wet paint. What do you think? Got any unique ideas how to dress these up? :-)
Don't know why I like birdcages so much, but always have. In the late 60's I went to Panama, and while there we went to a market place in the mountains and it was quiet an experience. The women and children would be walking to market, barefooted and their parcels and wares balanced on their heads (I could not do that as I am uncordinated) :-), and many had babies in slings around their neck. Anyway -back to birdcages. I bought a boat shaped birdcage at that market for $3. It was made from a rattan type of material, very well put together and quiet large, and it was intended for real birds - wild parakeets were everywhere . Because I flew in and out, I had no clue as to how I was going to get my prize home, but the people we were visiting came to my rescue. They were moving back to the States shortly afterwards, so brought it back with them. I kept it for many years, had faux birds in it, then decided one day I was tired of it and sold it in a carport sale. :(

Got a couple other goodies, but will post about those later. The newly weds and Grands are on their way with wedding photos. :-)
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Lets Go "Junkin"

Even tho last weekend was a very busy one, I still found time to go "junkin". Different city - different stores! This was a antique mall, good size and lots of things I would not classify as antique. :) I was already half way thru, before I decided to take pictures.

Anyone's relative? :-) Photobucket
Want to go for a bike ride? I have not been on a bike in years - could be a disaster!
Photobucket
I thought this table would look better with a wood top painted to go with the rest of the table. Oh well, I was not going to buy it either way.Photobucket
Anyone for a "sing along". Actually I can't carry a tune in a tin bucket and sure can't play the piano. Photobucket
Did they have any birdcages? They sure did! How many did I buy, you ask? More on that later. :-)

Have a great weekend!

Good Morning Sunshine

Photobucket
Beautiful weather today - sun shining and will be in low 70's. This is going to be a very busy weekend, with lots going on. I will be back next week with lots of pictures, I hope. Please cross your fingers (and toes) that we don't get the rain/stormy weather that is predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Dab of This and That

I think this is the last little Easter vignette around the house. I put the little yellow peep under glass to keep the dust off. :-) When my Grandson was 2 yrs. old, he and his Sister got some peeps in their Easter baskets. He loved to see birds - actually any kind of wildlife outside. He decided his peeps were his pet birds, and not to be eaten. He would carry them around where ever he went, put them beside him where ever he was playing, and take care of them. He happened to walk in the kitchen just as his Mom popped a peep in her mouth, and he was devastated and yell at her to not eat the little bird. Later when he was in bed, or distracted doing something else, she took his peeps and hid them, and he never asked for them again - guess he forgot about them. :-) He is a few years older now, still loves the wildlife, but thinks it is ok to eat the marshmallow peeps. :-)

Weather great today, so took a long walk around the neighborhood and admired the pretty flowers.PhotobucketPhotobucket
My Grandmother had these flowers, and we used to call them "Snowball Bushes" - don't know what the real name is - just think they are so pretty. This bush is huge.

Ham bone soup and it was good!

Mini Bunnies, New Dishes & A Great Big Thanks

First: Thank you everyone for the nice compliments on my flowers, but I can't take the credit. "Mother Nature" gets all the credit for those. I just plant them, give them a little water and fertilizer, and hope for the best. Then of course, if "Mommy Nature" would stop having her "mood swings" they might do a little better.
Just Some Mini Bunnies. I got these many years ago at Pier1, at an after Easter sale. Used them in Easter decor. for a couple of years, then went several years and did not get them out -so time for a reappearance this year.

Several weeks ago, I decided it was time to clear out my mismatched dishes, and made a trip to Old Time Pottery. I did not want sets, as I would rarely use some of the pieces that came in sets, but did need lots of dinner plates and these are Gibson (got 10). Can't see in pic., but they have ridges around the edge. I was not sure about rectangle shaped bowls, but kept going back to them, and ended up with 4 ea. of 2 different sizes, along with 4 white mugs (forgot to take pic. of one of those). My daughter took all of the mismatched pieces I was getting rid of.
Photobucket
Got them all washed and stickers removed(thank goodness for Goo Gone), and stacked neatly in the cabinet. (Hate to admit this, but a couple of weeks later, when I had a house full for dinner, I used disposable plates). Oooops! But, Hey! I was going to be the one doing the clean up afterwards! :)

AND A GREAT BIG THANK YOU: I received 4 awards recently, and I feel honored and I appreciate them very much. :-)

The first one I received twice. "The Proxmidade Award"
Photobucket

"This blog invests and believes in the PROXIMITY-nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement! Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers!” Then you are to pass it on to 8 people.
I received this award on 3/29/09 from: http://suzeeez.blogspot.com/
And on 3/28/09 from: http://doreensminiatures.blogspot.com/

On 3/28/09, I received "The Friends Award" from: http://domesticdesigner.blogspot.com/

"These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind of bloggers aim to find and to be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated."
As I have stated before in an earlier post, it is hard for me to pick and choose certain bloggers to pass these awards on to. I follow/frequent many wonderful blogs out there - as much as time will allow, and I keep adding to my "favorites list". I realized just how long that list is, when my "old computer" decided to give up the ship recently, and I had to start the list over (still have not found them all). So - If you follow my blog and/or post a comment to let me know you are out there, and interested in my ramblings, please accept these awards from me. Let me know if you do - I would love to know who you are.

And on 4/5/09, I received the "I Love You This Much" award from: http://barbsgoodlife.blogspot.com/
Photobucket
This award I would like to pass along to the bloggers out there that encouraged me to start my own blog, passed along some very helpful information, offered to help if I ran into a problem, and cheered me on. "LADIES, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE"

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VISIT THE ABOVE BLOGS IF YOU DON'T ALREADY. THESE ARE VERY TALENTED LADIES, AND HAVE GREAT BLOGS - YOU WILL NOT BE WASTING YOUR TIME.
Have a great evening.

Just a Dab of This and That

I feel like my brain is rattled, dealing with this "thing" called Windows Vista! There is so much "stuff" preloaded, that I will not/don't want to use, that is taking up disk space. I am afraid to remove the unwanted myself, as I may remove something necessary. :( Any suggestions out there, short of having to take it in somewhere and have a tech. do it? One thing I do like, is what you can do with Photo Gallery - Now if I can just figure out how to use it. :)
We are back to cold and dreary around here. Brought all my potted flowers and ferns inside yesterday, and my allergies have gone crazy! Don't they look pretty all lined up? :-)
Photobucket

Photobucket
With the exception of these 2 - they had ants in them. :( So they will get covered at night until it warms up again. Hope I did not bring in any pests in the others!
Photobucket
This is the only iris I have had to bloom so far, and with the temps to drop to 29 tonight, it will probabley be the only one.
Photobucket
Went to Michaels last week - I always check their $1 bins. Found these file folders, 4 to a pkg., and thought they were pretty. Has anyone else seen these? I will use them for lists, info., etc. on current things I need to keep up with daily. A little more pleasant to look at. :)
Photobucket
Told you, it was Just a Dab of This and That. :-)
Off to run errands and have lunch. Hope everyone has a great week.

Good News and Bad News!!!!!

BAD NEWS: Yesterday, storms came rolling in, so I shut the computer down. Actually got a lot accomplished - Cleaned house, cleaned out frig., cleaned out bathroom cabinets & drawer, shredded papers (more to do), etc. When bad weather cleared out, decide to turn computer back on - OUCH!! Tower would not come on - no power going into the emachine!! :-( Tried everything possible, and finally took the "thing" in to have it checked today - power connection inside was out. OK - got a repair price - Not good! :-( Due to its age - I had to make a decision of repair or replace. Decided to replace - Price: Bad news! :-(
REAL BAD NEWS!!! This "thing" I bought has Windows Vista, and I have got to learn all over again!
GOOD NEWS: I actually got the thing up and running!! :-) We won't talk about how long it took me. :)
BAD NEWS: I lost some data, and not sure how much can be recovered, which included my "Favorites" , "Feed List" (will have to be start over again), some photos recently loaded. :( I had backup on Norton and some photos on CD's, but I am to tired to deal with that tonight. Will start over tomorrow. New keyboard is super sensitive & I have to keep checking for typing errors - as if I don't make enough on my own. :)

Ladies/Gents - Please come forward & let me know you are out there, so I can get started on my list again. There were quiet a few blogs on my "favorites" list, that did not have a "followers" gadget, so hope I can remember the exact name to Google them. I am going to go pour a glass of wine, and start making lists. A very long day!
BAD NEWS: Temps dropping to 30's next Mon. & Tues. nights - I have a feeling I will be hauling a lot of pots of plants in the house next Mon. :(
GOOD NEWS: Weather was beautiful today, and suppose to be the next 2 days. :)

No pictures today - gotta start over.
Have a great weekend.
