Thrifty Buy and A Ramble

Found this box at HL a while back on the clearance isle. I plan to group it with a black urn and candle on a small shelf over the TV - that is, if the weather cools off enough and humidity goes down, so I can spray paint the urn.
The handle was loose, but pulled out the screw driver and cured that problem.
I was not about to leave it at the store at that price - $2 ! The bottom is a little scuffed up, but no one is going to see it anyway - Well ....you did and you won't tell will you? :D
Last trip I made to HL they had some things 90% off, but it was picked over, so left empty handed.
I am linking up with Leigh @ Tales from Bloggeritaville who is hosting "Thrifty Thursday" http://lbratina.blogspot.com
and Cindy who is hosting "Show and Tell Friday" http://romantichome.blogspot.com./
Be sure and visit Leigh and Cindy to see what they and the other participants have to share with us this week.

THANKS: Thanks for all the nice comments about the new flooring. I really like the way it looks and it is easy on the feet also.

WELCOME: Welcome, to all the readers (followers) who have joined in . I have a tendency to ramble sometimes, so hope I doesn't get to boring for you. :-D

SPEAKING OF RAMBLING: I went on a mission recently to find dry erase markers that were NOT low odor , for a couple of my Grands, as they were on the school supply list and my daughter had not had any luck finding them where she lives. I am not sure what the deal is about "No low odor". Can you imagine being in a classroom full of children using them at the same time - stinky!! :-D I found them (original ink) at office depot , and told my Daughter to be sure and ask the teachers the reason for the "No low odor".
My Grands go back to school Aug. 9th - I remember when school did not start til the day after Labor Day !!

I am still slowly, but surely cleaning out closets, drawers, cabinets, etc., around here. Clothes and shoes going to GW, some to the garbage. The "other stuff" is being boxed, bagged up with a "?" mark. Not sure it is worth having a garage sale at my Daughter's in the Fall. I use to do pretty good at having sales, but the last 2 were not worth the time and effort.

Hope you have a good week !
Another hot week ahead here !
Glenda

  1. I love your "thrifty buy"! How beautiful this box is.
Isn't it great when you find a bargain like this. And I have to agree, I can't pass it up either. The other day I realized we have a "Home Goods" store close by...you know where I am going this week...hope I find a good bargain too!
    Happy day!
    Thanks for your visit!

  5. What a deal! It is cute! I've been pulling things out and putting them in a donate pile, which has gotten so big that I think I have to have a garage sale. Ick...I hate them, but the extra money would be nice I guess.

  6. Glenda! What a cool box. I love that.

I'm with you... it seems too early to be going back to school. I always loved going back in the fall, but August is SUMMER!

Cecelia and Clement go back soon, too. Where has the summer gone?

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  8. Hi Glenda !
I love your new box. What a fantastic price! We finally have an HL. It's an hour drive to get there, so I haven't gone much. But I love it when they have a sale!

  9. Hi Glenda!
First off, LOVE the new flooring; it's gorgeous. GREAT choice. It's what I'd put in my kitchen, if it hadn't already come with the hard tile. Broke a glass on it the other week -- what a mess!

And you guessed right on the mystery case! smart lady.

Love that harlequin box -- really nice. and really love that quilt that's under it!

$2? Amazing. HL? Is that Hobby Lobby? We don't have them here!!!!

  10. Glenda-I have been gone and missed your post on the new floor. I LOVE it!!! It does look exactly like slate and I love the colors. Maybe you could lay a piece down in the bathroom and just live with it a day or two to see if you'd like it. It would be a shame not to use it. Love the box too and it will look great the way you have planned. I missed the HL sale! It really is just too hot to be outside for anything (but getting the mail :) Take care and stay inside!!

  11. You really got a bargain on that box!

I have a set of student sized dry erase boards that I use from time to time. I do not have low odor markers and I can hardly stand to use them all day. They literally make me sick and give me a terrible headache. I would say that kids who are super sensitive to smells may have a problem even using the smelly ones for a short time.

  15. ooooh... I love this harlequin box! I didn't see anything like this last week when I was in HL. Maybe I should go back! LOL
I remember going back to school after Labor Day, too. Personally, I believe in changing the school year to a year 'round schedule. So many kids lose what they have learned over the course of the summer, and they suffer. Since we aren't an agrarian society anymore, a three month summer hiatus makes no sense to me. I wonder if this will ever change?
Stay cool- it's humid here again today. If it would rain I'd be happy, but then it would be doubly humid. I can't win!!!
    hugs, Sue

  16. What a lovely box! I am also waiting for good weather to paint! lol When I taught, I didn't use the dry erase board often, but the smell is really something! The only thing I can say is that the low odor kind do not last very long or write very dark. I hope you are having a great week!...hugs....Debbie

  18. Wow, Glenda, that's a wonderful box and you do know you stole it for that price, don't you? :)
It's so hot and humid here. I think if I spray something outside it would never dry - just would stay sticky!
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  19. Glenda, what a great deal on that harlequin patterned box! Lucky you!
I am really puzzeled about the "no low odor" markers. I hope you'll find out why and let us know. Hope you are staying in the air conditioning as much as possible. It is dangerous out there! laurie

  20. Thanks for visiting, weather not much better here even in the mountains the heat index was 95 today. Suppose to be 107 one day this week. Very unusual for this area, but I will take it any day over 18 inches of snow!!

  21. Btw, Love your floor! Yes, I think I'm going to start a protest group called School shouldn't start til after Labor Day. That's the old way and the best way and I'm sticking to it! Have a good week!

  24. What a cute box! I love the shape and colors...so many possibilities AND a super price!!! Don't you just love Hobby Lobby? I really have to watch myself though...it's easy to pick up things on sale, but while I'm there and see something neat {that's not on sale}, I have to remind myself to be patient...next week it most likely will be on sale!

  28. I could not have passed up that charming box either--and what a great price. I really need to start going to thrift shops and shopping more frequently at TJ Maxx, Marshal's, etc. I'm always seeing wonderful items at wonderful prices.

  29. You're floor looks very much like the one we just put down in the kitchen. Mine is a bit more "dirt" colored - a HUGE benefit. No more mopping everyday.

As to your box? I would walk over burning coals to get to a box!

  36. I love your great find! Sadly, we don't have Hobby Lobby near us either! I can't believe your grands are going back to school already. Our schools don't start until after Labor Day. Your schools must get out much earlier in the spring than ours.
