Summer's Bounty

But not out of my garden. Main reasons - I don't have a vegetable garden, don't have the know how to have a successful one, don't want the work involved, don't have the room for one here, and to much shade. Is that enough reasons? :D

So like many others - off to the farmer's market, roadside stands, etc.. One of my Grands and I made a pizza run one evening recently for dinner, and we passed a roadside stand. I told her to remind me on the way back to stop and get a watermelon - she thought that was a great idea.
Made the stop, popped open the trunk and told the man I needed a nice ripe melon..............
and added some yummy looking ripe tomatoes.
Asked Grand if she saw anything she would like. Oh Yes ! Peaches! They were ripe and you could smell them several feet away.
Paid the man, and went our way. We had not gone far down the road and we could smell the peaches inside the car, along with the aroma of fresh baked pizza - Yummmmm..........! Was that a perfect pairing of food ? Have no clue - probably not. However, it tasted yummy and what made it even better was the fact I did not have to cook dinner that evening.

Antique, wooden bowl the peaches are in ? Bought at a yard sale in the late 70's from a very old lady, who said it had been in her family as long as she could remember. Price 50 cts.

A little editing done here.
I am really "slipping" these days, as I have not cooked a pot of fresh purple hull peas, or yellow squash with onions, yet this Summer. Had planned on going to the farmers' market today for fresh vegetables, local made pepper jelly and chow chow. However, after I ran my other errands, and getting so hot in and out of the car I decided to wait. Plus since the peas and fried squash requires at least a tiny bit of bacon drippings to cook them just right, it would require a trip to the grocery - which I was NOT going to do today.
Just trying to "Keep things simple these days" .

ETA: Forgot to take a picture of the melon after it was cut, but it too was a beautiful Summer red and yummy.

Oh the farmers market is just the place to be this time of year. DH stopped by the other day and brought home a load of goodies. Peaches, watermelon, cantelope, sweet corn and red potatoes plus a huge bag of onions. I have been in 7th heaven. I am sure your pizza and peaches were a perfect combo.

No, we missed the big dust storm, thank goodness. It was really bad and so many people were just covered. We were blessed. Hugs, Marty

You're making me hungry. Actually, peaches and pizza sound really good to me. I wish I had more room for a vegetable garden, but the farmers market is a close second.

Your reasons for not having a veggie garden are pretty much the same as mine! I hit the farmer's market when I need things, too! I missed this week's but I'll definitely be there next Thursday. :-)

Now that's my kind of meal!! Watermelon is my fave! I think I could eat a whole one by myself in one sitting *winks* Aren't the roadside fruit stands great? We rarely get them around here but when we do I always stop and load up. Vanna

I wanted to get a take and bake pizza last night....

Really bad.

But it was so hot, I couldn't make myself turn on the oven...........

So you know it was bad when I gave up pizza!

Oh, your produce looks fantastic!

I can just smell those peaches.

And I love your wood bowl!

I haven't had any watermelon this summer yet. I keep thinking of your cute little courtyard, and how I wish I could have one like it.

What an awesome post. Your contrasting mosaics are wonderful. Love the way you show the photos individually and then as mosaics. Very clear and unique. A fab post this week. Happy MM. Genie

Mmmm, I can almost smell those peaches! Going to the farmer's market is one of my favorite things about summer. Our local farm has some okra right now -- I will have to find a recipe, because I have never had it and want to try some... :)

Love peaches. Can't wait till they ripen here in Ontario. Farmer's Markets are the best. V

It's so nice to enjoy fresh produce when it is at its peak.
Our farmers' market is just about to start up and I hope to find some tasty fruits and veggies.

I would never normally say that I am looking forward to summer as I am a winter girl. However, I do love summer for one main reason...the delicious stone fruits! I can almost smell those yummy peaches from here!

Best wishes for a wonderful and summery week,
Natasha.

Aw...a Farmer's Market. Nothing like local fresh grown. And it's so interesting how the grocery store peaches hardly smell at all.
I wonder what that old wooden bowl would be worth on Antiques Roadshow!!

One the best things about summer is a good farmers' market. Great idea for a mosaic!

That all looks wonderful, Glenda! I think your reasons for not growin' your own are perfectly valid. Why bother when you can keep cool, spend a few dollars, and come home with a beautiful, ripe, delicious harvest?

You arranged and photographed it all beautifully! What a deal on the old wooden bowl! Don't you love buying family heirlooms?

Have a great week,
Bill

I too have given up on vegtable gardening (at least for now) for many of the same reasons. Thankfully we've got farm stands!

I'd love to have you join me next year at Seasonal Sundays.

I am so ready for fresh tomatoes. We have a few potted tomato plants, but they aren't red yet. Our "farmer's market" is a couple old guys with card tables at our almost dead mall...blah. I so wish I lived somewhere with a true market...I'd go every week.
