And the Storm Rolls in...

Like so many parts of the country, this area has had more than its share of storms rolling thru.
These are some pics my daughter sent me recently when a late afternoon  storm hit her area.  Click on pics to enlarge.
When you are out and about and see this, it is time to go home.
Things did not look any better when they got home.
Tried to attach a video she sent of when the winds got so bad and trees were swaying, and things started flying thru the air, but was unable to do so.
Time to take cover, and they did.
They heard later the winds hit 70mph. at one point.
Even the wild life did not like the situation.  After things calmed down, this character was on their window - did not know if the storm put him there, or it was looking for a safe place.
Lots of tree damage and/or down, large oak, probably close to 100 yrs. old,  down the street laying across the road.  Guessing that was what took down their power lines, so the rest of the night was listening to the utility company trucks, chain saws, flashing lights and very loud radio communications back and forth between the crews.  But they were also very thankful the workers were there to restore power back to a very large section of the area.

She said a large section of one of their pecan trees was missing, part of the grill, top of the fire pit, etc. - all yet to be found.  Update: Top of fire pit found several yards away.
The red headed cupid's swing set did not fair so well, and who knows where that tree limb came from, as the wind blew it like a catapult, and it ended up in their yard embedded in the ground.
If you read  my posts often, you know I "mumbled and grumbled" about the bitter cold during the Winter,  and how Spring is my favorite time of the year.  However, we sure could do without the storms that rear their ugly heads this time of the year.

Spring and summer storms can be a bear. We've had our fair share of 70 mph winds here in IL. Most recently it was wind and hail. I like thunderstorms but not when they turn into life-threatening events:) We've lost trees, patio umbrellas, etc. over the years. Thank goodness for insurance. Glad everyone was ok. xo Kathleen

How frightening! I know it could have been much worse, but when you're right in the middle of it you just hold your breath and pray.

I read about the storms crossing the south and east the past couple of days! Those clouds do look menacing. Glad no one was hurt!

So bad...we had bad weather here this weekend, too. Winds of 95 to 100 mph, hail, heavy rain...I am posting about what it did to our daughter's place on my blog Sat.

That is a very angry looking sky! And I so appreciated the bit of levity with the frog on the windshield. Ha! Glad that no one was hurt, but sorry to see all the damage to trees and belongings.

Glad to hear everyone is ok. I do think the frog wanted in. We get some hefty storms though Fl and I am always amazed at how the birds and animals endure it. I have a feeder outside my window and when the rain picks up or it gets really windy I see the birds head to the trees....

Great post and pictures!

Oh wow, that was a crazy storm and sounds almost like a small tornado struck. We sure can get some awful storms in parts of the world. Glad you are all safe. The frog on the window is really funny. I hope he survived!

I'm sure you worried about your family when you heard about their stormy weather, and then saw the evidence in the photos.
We forget about the wildlife, they often have nowhere safe and dry to hunker down and ride out a storm.

Glenda that second photo is amazing when you enlarge it. The colors of the tree and sky, just like when a bad storm is coming in. Good captures there by your daughter (?)

That is a very scary storm indeed. I hate it when the sky gets dark like that and the wind picks up. Stay safe!

Whoa, that sky looked pretty scary. We had one similar last week and silly me was outside taking photos. When the wind went crazy, I got scared and ran inside! Glad everyone was ok. The frog was funny!

The storm does look scary, the high winds can be dangerous. Thank God they survived without too much damage..Amazing photos. Have a happy week!

We had storms the last several days but they were "normal" for our area. About two weeks ago it was a different story / worst I've encountered in a long long while. I know what you mean. Yet, as scary as that one was, we had no tornadoes or major damage...I can't fathom how people deal with those not once but several times in their lifetime.

The photos are amazing !

Scary storms. The sky looks so menacing. But there is beauty in the wildness of it all.
