Plus - I don't know the correct terminology.
OK - So I researched utube (I know - not the right spelling) on "how to remove the HD from the PC tower".
Step 1 - Remove the side panels. Small problem - my PC is NOT like the ones used in the utube demos, so I was pretty much on my own with that little detail.
Mission accomplished!
Step 2 - Remove the HD from the tower. Again mine did not look like the one in the demos, so had to wing it, but after removing a couple of screws it popped out.
Step 3 - Remove the wires and that strange
looking, wide tape "thingy" that is plugged into
the end.
Now - How am I going to destroy that thing if it is encased in a metal frame. 3 screws were removed without a problem, the 4th was stripped out, so had to round up several different size screwdrivers until found one that would work.
And the prize is......
Did a bit of research on how to destroy one of these little black boxes and think I will save that project for a day I really need to vent, let off steam, get rid of some frustrations, etc...Add to "L" - find out where I can take the PC to have it properly disposed of.
If anyone has any fail proof suggestions on how to destroy a HD, I would love to hear them.

I have noticed around the land of blog, many are starting to decorate for Fall. Think I will wait a while since..........
Summer is still hanging on around here.

Glenda, You are most certainly much braver than I. I will tackle household appliances, i.e. dishwashers, washers and dryers. I am so intimidated by computers that I would be scared to death to open one of these.
My son has changed out my hard drive in my trunk before. That didn't sound right...it was my computer, It was just easier to take it when we met him for lunch. Bob and I just shook our heads, he must have changed it out in ten seconds. Of course he has always been a computer guru.
I will ask him how he would permanently destroy what's inside. Is a hammer not safe?
LOL, Ginger
Sounds like alot of work to me! I would have probably taken mine to Office Depot and ask them to do it. But, then, I know nothing about computers.

Summer is still hanging around here too. Good for you for getting the HD out of the computer. I have 3-4 of them sitting in a cabinet somewhere because I don't know what to do with them (HDs. We have a pickup that will take computers, so those are long gone. Maybe you can make some jewelry out of the bits and pieces, lol.
Oh, it's still pretty hot here. I have often wanted to blow up my computers.

I remember using a YouTube video to remove our HD out of our old fashioned computer many years ago. Don't you just crush it with a hammer? It's long gone now. We just have laptops now. We have a few dead ones sitting around but they don't take up so much space so they don't bother me so much having them around.
Whoa-that's all way too techy for my brain-ha!:)
It's still summer temps here, too, but I finally succumbed to my first touch of fall decor...what can I say?
The pumpkins that I found made me do it!
Susan
Mmmm I wouldn't even attempt to do that, Glenda. You are gutsy.....Christine
LOL - Mr Op just did the same thing with an old one of ours. He then drilled holes through it.
I am impressed with your tech savvy! NOt sure I would have even tackled that one lol. Some schools are closed here in the Chicago suburbs today due to heat. UGH.
Oh girl , your much braver than me. I think I would have electrocuted myself. LOL
Hugs Lynn
I was really glad to see this. As we start to clean out the storage room in the basement, I think I will run into more than one computer to get rid of. I never sell or give them away because of the info on the HD. I am glad to know YouTube has instructions.
Good info to know! Thanks for sharing. It is going to be 104 here this weekend... blah~ I am so ready to start wearing sweaters and complain about it being to cold lol
big hugs~
You sound like a professional to me, so I am off to UPS to send you hubby's old computer to take care of.....K??? Lol, I am just kidding. He has been working on taking it apart for about 2 years now because it has work/patient info on it, so he can't just chunk it.
