New Year Resolutions!?!?

Photobucket
"I do not do well with making and keeping New Year's Resolutions. Many years I made them and they went by the wayside before the end of January - actually before the first week of January was over or Jan. 2nd or 3rd. So I won't make resolutions, but I am updating my "To Do List" to start the year off right. Yeah! I know, the "To Do List" - The one that the only time it gets my attention, is when I recognize it's existence so I can add something else on the list. You really don't want to know how long some of those things have been on the list (how long have I lived here?). So my New Year's Resolution (scratch that) - "To Do List" (nope, that title does not get my attention either) How about "Don't Turn on the Computer List". Get up (don't turn on computer), and eat breakfast (ugh!). I am not a breakfast person, unless I have been up for a while and someone else does the cooking and cleaning up after. Anyway, eat a few bites so can take vitamins - 1/2 of banana will work (don't turn on computer). Get dressed and put on a face - just in case I have to run out or someone comes to the door ( don't turn on the computer). Get list out - #1 requires a trip to Home Depot or Lowes - Okee Dokee! DO NOT GIVE UP AND TURN ON THE COMPUTER. Do you see what my problem is here??

Does anyone know where I can hire a very qualified "handy man", who can do plumbing, electrical work, painting, carpentry (and the list goes on). He must be cheap, licensed (cheap), insured (cheap), bonded (cheap), honest (cheap) handy man (did I say cheap?)."

Some of you may be saying "Where have I read this before" ? Yep - I wrote that post Jan 1, 2009. I started a post yesterday and went back to work on it this morning, and thought this sounds like what I wrote this time last year. Soooooo - to save me some work, I C&P the old post. Nothing has changed - It all still applies ! ! :-D Now off to make a couple of phone calls I should have made 2 days ago.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ! ! !

Yummy Pecans & Going on Strike!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas ! It is hard to believe that another Christmas has come and gone. The original plans were to have Christmas at my home tomorrow (Sunday). Then a couple of days before Christmas , some decided to come over Christmas day also. Had already planned to have ham for Sunday, so back to the grocery for a small turkey. I am thinking very seriously about going on strike next year. :-)

I love pecans, and had some that I wanted to do something different with, then Michael Lee West @ Designs By Gollum posted her recipe for Tabasco Pecans. Click here for the recipe http://designsbygollum.blogspot.com/2009/12/have-you-tried-tabasco-pecans.html. I can't handle the heat, but the rest of the ingredients sounded good, and she said the tabasco and garlic were optional, so decided to give them a try. Let me tell you!!! You can't eat just one! They were a big hit. The only thing I did different - I used a little garlic powder instead of the minced garlic (because I forgot the garlic when went to the store), and omitted the tabasco sauce. If I knew how much to use more for the flavor without them being to hot, I would have used some. But I was not about to take a chance and get them to hot for me. Let me tell you - these things are addictive. Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipe - I will be making them again.

Photobucket
OK - off to make a check off list - what time to put the ham in the oven, have it done and ready for the potatoes to go in the oven, then what time the sweet potato casserole goes in, etc., etc., etc.
Enjoy the Holidays!!

It is the Holidays ! !

One thing about the holidays - we eat things that we don't normally eat, because they will make you gain weight, or they are not good for you, etc., etc., and we justify what we ate by simply saying "but it is the Holidays". Where am I going with this?? No where - I just need to justify eating baklava for breakfast this morning. :-)
I am linking this post up with "Deck the Halls" hosted by Susan @ Thoughts From Over the Rainbow http://thoughtsfromovertherainbow.blogspot.com/

In a previous post, I said I would post more pictures of the gingerbread houses that were on display in the lobby of the location where I attended a luncheon. They were created by the culinary staff at the hotel.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Hope you enjoyed seeing these works of art as much as I did. Be sure and visit Susan to see what see and the other participants have to share this week.

Last week a couple of the stations here were saying a 20% chance of some of that dreaded white stuff Christmas Eve night. :( Now "they" are saying the temps won't be as low as originally expected and will have 40% chance of rain. Yay! No snow!

Deck the Halls and a Winner!

Time for Deck the Halls hosted by Susan @ Thoughts From Over the Rainbow. http://thoughtsfromovertherainbow.blogspot.com/ Went to a Holiday Luncheon today and thought I would share a couple of the trees at the location of the event. But before we get to the pictures .............

We have a Winner!! Today has been a very busy day and I have been gone more than at home. Walked in the house and immediately saw the container of names ready to have a name drawn. I did not take the time to figure out how to use the Random # thing-a-ma-jig! I just mixed them up real good and pulled one out.Photobucket The giveaway is going North to "Cold Country" !! Congratulations Cindy! If you will email me with your address, the package will be on its way. My email address is on my profile.
Went to a Holiday Luncheon today and these are couple of the trees at the location of the event.
PhotobucketPhotobucketThis was a stack of cans of popcorn in the shape of a tree, but I was slow taking photos. :-)
I replaced the little white pumpkin with an ornament.

Settled on this one.

How About A Giveaway!!!

I was a "lurker" on several blogs for quiet some time before I started my own. I commented under "Anonymous" (had no clue how to set up an account), but always signed off as Glenda/MidSouth. Did not want anyone to think I was one of those "stalkers" out there! :) Then I thought - I would like to do that! So with the encouragement of several, I decided to take the plunge. I will admit, I started this new adventure very cautiously. Had no clue whether anyone would have an interest in anything I do or how I do it, in my spare time.
One of the main reasons I started a blog was because of my 2 main hobbies - Repurposing old/vintage jewelry, and 1/12 scale miniatures (dolls houses, etc). Then I started blogging about my "junkin" adventures, small "redos" around my home, etc., etc., and then it grew from there..
When I first started out, I thought I was the "new kid" on the block, but soon realized that many of you "bloggers" out there started during the same time frame that I did - lots of good company out there . Was there something in the water? :-)
Thanks to everyone who has visited, those who left a comment (love them - even the one that said I had to much time on my hands) :-), those who joined as a "Reader" (follower), and to those that come and go silently.

ANYWAY: When I started out , I decided to do a giveaway when I hit 50 posts. That happened so fast, it slipped past me. Does that mean I talk to much? :)
OK - I will do a giveaway when I hit 100 posts - well I let that one slip by also.
How about 100 followers - missed that one !
Anniversary - 1 yr. 11/18/09 - To much going on.
HOW ABOUT 155 POSTS !?!?

TODAY IS THE DAY ! ! ! In June(?), I did some early Christmas shopping at Cupid's Charm http://cupidscharm.blogspot.com/, and decided to giveaway one of the items I purchased from Joy. Her jewelry is absolutely beautiful!! It is a vintage postcard image necklace, designed with Swarovski crystals & pearl, and Mother of Pearl heart bead (info. on card she included with the necklace). Sorry about the blurred pictures - rain and dreary all day, so no bright natural light.
Photobucket
A few other things will keep it company while in route to the winner! Remember the Bradford Edition Angels I found at a yardsale last Spring - I am including a couple of them. How about the pretty bookmark I got a super deal on at HL, WS lobster shaped spreaders, Southern Recipes book I bought on a trip (never opened it so can't vouch for the recipes) :-), Wine bottle replacement cork, wine motif coasters. Need a beach motif note pad and sticky notes?
Photobucket
Who knows what else may take the trip also.

How do you enter you ask?
Comment on this post - You get 1 entry.
If you are a follower - You get 2 entries.
Mention this giveaway on your blog - You get 3 entries. - You must let me know that you did.
Deadline for entries - 12/13/09 Midnight - Central Time.

Very sorry, but due to postal rates, giveaway limited to United States residents only. :(
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Deck the Halls

Time for another "Deck the Halls" hosted by Susan @ Thoughts From Over the Rainbow. http://thoughtsfromovertherainbow.blogspot.com/. Thanks Susan for hosting this event. I have really enjoyed seeing everyone's Christmas decorations. I brought my decorating to a screeching halt, as I think I have been on my leg to much, but I do have a few more things around the house to share. Some of you may remember my birdcage that I hung a chandelier ( tree ornament) in a while back. Well - I found a package of two white trees at Dollar Tree and put them in the birdcage. I think it gives it a Winter/snow look, then added a touch of holiday decor on top.

Photobucket

Hard to photograph the inside. Remember the house Dr. Zhivago and Lara fled to, that snow had blown inside and everything was covered in snow and ice.....................may work on this some more. :)

This is my small contribution this week. Be sure to visit Susan to see what she and the other participants have to share this week.
Stay warm and have a great week!

ETA: I have crossed a lot of milestones since I started blogging, and have let them slip by. Sooooo.......I will be announcing a "Giveaway" in the near future - so stay turned!

I did not notice the beads were hanging off the side until the pictures were uploaded.

The angel is actually a tree ornament.

Little Treasures

Time for "Show and Tell Friday" hosted by Cindy @ http://romantichome.blogspot.com/ Thanks Cindy for hosting this event again this week.
I know many of you have probably seen these old sewing baskets around before. Apparently they were very popular at one time (early 1900's). I got this one at an auction many years ago and it is in good shape - many of them did not survive. Yes - that is where I keep my needles, thread, etc. You can tell I don't sew much anymore. :) The hat stand also is very old and it was given to me by someone who got it at an auction at a very old store in Arkansas. The hat I found at Stein Mart, and I added the flower. No I don't wear it - It is a child's size. An adult size was double the price and I don't wear hats anyway. :-) I just thought the stand needed a hat! :-)

Outdoor Wednesday

First I want to thank everyone that left the sweet comments on my miniature greenhouse post. After the holidays I hope to add more to it and also work on the San Franciscan doll house. That is the doll house I had to walk away from for a while, because I got frustrated trying to put the flooring in.

I am linking to "Outdoor Wednesday" hosted by Susan @ http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/ again this week. Thanks Susan for hosting this weekly event. My contribution this week is 3 more of the beautiful horses.

Rained off and on all day yesterday, and a very gray, dreary, chilly day today. Hope it warms up for the rest of the week with sunshine - I am knee deep in leaves again and need to do something about it.
Hope you are having a great week.

Miniature Greenhouse

ETA: I am also joining "Sunday Favorites" with this post since the original was posted in January. Chari at Happy to Design is hosting the weekly event http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/, so be sure and visit Chari to see what she and the others have to share this week.

I am late!! I knew there was something I was going to do last night or early this morning. Join in "Show and Tell Friday" hosted by Cindy @ http://romantichome.blogspot.com/ Thanks Cindy for hosting again this week. I originally did a post on my Miniature greenhouse in January and tried to post the original post here, but it was showing all the comments made at that time. I need to go to "Blogging School" . :-) The pictures were put in photobucket before I learned how to make them bigger, so sorry they are a little on the small side.

Bought the terraium container on clearance at HL several years ago. It already had the green crackled paint on it when it was bought.

The potting bench was originally a mini drysink that I whitewashed, and the table and the door I made out of scrapes of balsa wood and whitewashed them. The handles on the door are earring backs. I made one of the plants from leaves off of a faux plant and the rest I bought here and there - where ever they were on sale.

Photobucket See the kitty playing with a ball.PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
I added the shingles on top.
Thanks for touring my miniature greenhouse. Be sure and visit Cindy to see what she and the other participants have to offer today.

Have a great weekend!

Show and Tell Friday

Another beautiful day here in the MidSouth. It is Friday and time again for "Show and Tell Friday" hosted by Cindy @ My Romantic Home" http://romantichome.blogspot.com/ Thanks Cindy for hosting the fun event again this week.

This is about another one of my unintended collections. :-) Pottery pitchers. Sorry the pictures are not bigger, but I already had them in photobucket at a smaller size and did not have time to retake them .
The first one had belonged to a friend many years ago. I told him that if he ever decided to get rid of it to let me know and I would buy it from him. My birthday was not far off and he gave it to me for my birthday. I saw a picture of one just like it in either Country Living or Country Home around the same time, and it was just called "painted pottery". Also saw one like it at a flea market with a large chip and the dealer was asking $60 ! !

Photobucket
The next 2 solid blue ones I ended up with as my daughter was getting rid of some things that was passed down to her that had belonged to her Great Grandmother. I claimed these 2 blue pitchers. The one with a raised design is old, but not sure about the other one as there are no markings to go by. The blue and white with the cow design once belong to my Mother - I don't think it is old, but is a reproduction.

PhotobucketPhotobucket Now I have a collection! The brown one is old - I got it at an estate auction of a relative.

That is my contribution to "Show and Tell Friday" . Be sure and visit Cindy to see what she and the other participants have to share this week.
Have a great weekend !!

ETA: Just remembered I did a post on these pitchers back in Feb., so some of you may have already seen them.

This is a picture of the first doll house I put together from a kit (and will be the last). It is the one I gave to one of my Granddaughters in 2005. These pictures were taken in 2002, with one of those one time cameras and are not real great. When I tried to enlarge them, they became blurry. Can't retake them as I no longer have the house, and the furnishings are packed up waiting for me to finish the inside of the San Franciscan that I am working on (at the rate I am going, that may be never). You can see from the opening in the upstairs hallway, I never installed the stairs, also never installed the front door .

Photobucket
The walls appear crooked, but they are not as you can tell in the above picture.

ETA: Took the pics off of CD and reuploaded them at a larger size than what was on the original post - still blurry, but a little bigger.

Show and Tell Friday

OK - Somebody turn the faucets off !!! Another day of rain, another one for tomorrow and chance it won't end til Sat. AM. :(

On the bright side - it is time for Show and Tell hosted by Cindy @ My Romantic Home http://romantichome.blogspot.com/. Thanks Cindy for hosting this weekly event.

My contribution this week is a real "blast from the past". I was going to say - remember when we all had those clutch bags covered in beads and sequins that we carried out in the evening to parties, weddings, etc.. But then I thought - No, many of the bloggers out there are not old enough to remember them. :-) Well, I AM old enough! (there I said it) :-) What you are about to see are 2 of mine that I have kept all these years - from the mid 60's. These were hard to photograph because of the light reflecting off of them.
The basic white -

Photobucket
And the basic black -
Photobucket
These little beauties attended many evening events and hold many memories. Neither one has been used in many years, but I don't have the heart to get rid of them.
That is my contribution to "Show and Tell". Be sure and visit Cindy to see what she and the other participants have to share this week.

Now - off to see if Susan @ "Thoughts From Over the Rainbow" got the Ark out of drydock for us, and to see what food and drink provisions I need to bring along! :-D
Have a great weekend!

Outdoor Wednesday

Time for "Outdoor Wednesday" hosted by Susan @ A Southern Daydreamer http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Thanks Susan for again hosting this weekly event.

Our beautiful sunshine and clear blue skies were short lived in the MidSouth. This was my view while having my morning coffee - more rain.PhotobucketPhotobucket
Rain on the pumpkin - at least it is not frost!

Photobucket

A while back I posted about the squirrels having their dinner in the hickory nut tree over my courtyard, and how the pieces fell everywhere. As it turns out, the broken pieces make for an easy meal for the chipmonks. I saw this little guy having a snack on my patio. They are extremely skiddish around here, due to the heavy cat population.Photobucket
This fellow was above my back door a few days ago, and he stayed up there a couple of days, then moved to the screen for another day or 2. Thought he was finally gone, then this past weekend he was on the door mat for several hours.

Photobucket

Was sitting at the dining table yesterday and a squirrel was at my sliding glass door looking at me. By the time I picked up the camera, he took off. I guess the wildlife know the cold is not far off and are looking for a warmer abode.

This is my small contribution to "Outdoor Wednesday". Be sure to visit Susan to see what she and the other participants have to share this week.

Hope everyone is having a great week.
