Someone Has Been Busy......

preparing for the holidays - but not me.
Hard to  believe Thanksgiving has come and gone already, and Christmas is just around the corner.  I don't shop on Thanksgiving weekend, and it was a bit to cold for me to venture out anyway.  I did manage to put away the Fall decor used inside, and hope to start decorating for Christmas in the very near future.  I did put out the red placemats - does that count?
A quite Thanksgiving Day  at "Dab of This and That", as enjoyed an early Thanksgiving last weekend. Daughter and family hosted this year, and the first time I have not had to cook in many, many years.  What a treat - I am still doing the "happy dance" over that!!
Enjoyed a couple of treats that were a result of their pecan harvest.
Pumpkin cake with caramel icing and toasted pecans.
From tree to            harvest          to yummy results.
No picture of the cinnamon/sugar toasted pecans that were yummy.  What did not get eaten, went home with a certain other daughter - if you are reading this, you know who you are. :D

Crochet needles flying so heads and ears will be warm.

Their Christmas decorating is already done inside and outside  - more on that in another post. She, and SIL  hit the early sales and have all their major shopping done.

And a certain "fat cat" says.....
Wake me when its over !!
As for what "Dab of This and That" has accomplished planning for Christmas ?  I am working on it - I really am!!!! (At least the "lists"  are started!)

A Before and After....

with a little holiday decor added.
In July, one of my daughters sent me a pic of some "junkin finds" she scored.  This great old birdcage she scored at $5,  and  vintage canning jars (more on those another time).
She said,  she was going to paint and distress the cage, and here is a pic of the end result.  It was the first thing I noticed when she sent pictures of some of her holiday decor.

This is the same one that used to attend the flea markets with me when she was young. I would buy her a big soft pretzel with a bit of mustard slathered on it, and she would follow me around the flea markets with no complaints.  Then of course she hit her adolescent/teen years and flea markets became "boring".   However, it seems what she learned in her "early" years stuck with her.

A Kinda/Sorta Successful Shopping Trip...

I usually carry a substantial size purse/bag on my shoulder for everyday out and about.  It could be made anything from quilted material, canvas to leather.  I am not one to change purses often - usually use one until I tire of it and move on.  Evening wear and/or special occasions - I have purses to fit the occasion.
Already on a mission to find a pair of low heeled, black dress shoes, so added crossbody small purse/bag for everyday use to the list.   One just big enough for the bare essentials - driver's licenses, etc.

What did I accomplish on that shopping trip? Not what I set out to do.  Did not find the dress shoes I needed,  but  ended up with 2 pairs of casual shoes, and yes a crossbody purse.
The size works, color black works, zipped pockets work, etc.  Just disappointed I did not find one I liked made of natural materials without having to pawn my first born.  So got tired of looking and settled on this one.

Paid half the original price so guess that kinda/sorta qualifies as a thrifty find.....

Were the shoes a thrifty buy?  Not in my opinion, but needed them anyway.
Be sure to drop by and see what the other participants have to share this week.

Fall in the Courtyard - 2

Hard to believe this year is winding down, and the holidays are almost here. Emails and phone calls back and forth, making plans on where all will get together for different family gatherings, with lots of good food, great company, and good times.

The courtyard is winding down also for the year.  The few red and pink blooms in the background are still hanging on, as low as the temps have been over night lately, and will more than likely be gone completely by the end of the week.  Dug around in a storage box and found some faux mums, so put them in a Fall container to keep the faux pumpkin company.  To late in season to buy anymore real ones - hence the reason for adding some faux to the mix.

Same here - a pot of faux mums sitting next to a pot of real, yellow ones.  See the couple of bronze blooms on the real plant?  That is the color the whole pot of mums is suppose to be - according to the label.  Oh well - I do like the yellow ones better.
The only problem with these, they never seemed to completely open up. Hummm??
Yes - Leaves - Lots of leaves in my future!  A tiny fraction of what is yet to come.......
  Fall is definitely here....
and Winter is just around the corner.

One of Those Days......

You wake up to rain - lots of rain......
My daughter took this pic looking out  her living room window - the reflection
is from the room behind her.
So what to do on a day like this?  You bake muffins...
or  cinnamon rolls.  Ready to go in the oven...
Or if you have a "hungry gang" - you bake both !
Or take the easy way out and just go take a nap (like something I would do).....

"Acceptance Speech"
I would like to thank my daughter who contributed all these pics  of  "goings on at her abode"  used in the production of this post.  I could not have done it without her, as I have not done any "real" baking in years, and sadly don't have a sweet furbaby at my house.  Now the rainy view?  Yep!  I could have easily come up with one of those (not sure about the reflection).
(Keep smiling - makes people wonder what you are up to!)
