Thrifty Thursday

Thought I would join in with Leigh @ Tales of Bloggeritaville http://lbratina.blogspot.com/ for Thrifty Thursday. Nothing real exciting, but did get these 2 magazine holders for "free". I asked how much and she said just take them. She was more interested in getting rid of stuff, than making money - major clean out. I already have several, but mine are a frosted acrylic (?). I will probabley offer these to my daughter.
Photobucket
Found this wooden basket in the clearance section of HL a few weeks ago. Originally $4.99, and I paid $1. I originally planned to spray it satin black to go with the redos for my 1/2 bath, but decided against it as it is a different style.

This is my little contribution to "Thrifty Thursday". Lets go over to see what Leigh and the other participants have to share .
Short post today. To much going on right now that I have no control over and there is nothing I can do to make things better. Can't say that I have accomplished much today. Ok - I will take a deep breath - maybe tomorrow will be better.
Hope you are having a great week.

Beach Party

It is time for the "Beach Party" hosted by Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage http://www.theshabbychiccottage.net/ . She is hosting this party, so everyone can show their beach related decor, such as shells, starfish, etc. Thank you Gina for hosting this event. I don't have a lot of beach related items , but do have a few shells around.

A bowl with some sand (daughter brought the sand from Florida), white crushed rock, and shells around a candle.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Shells on my coffee table. Took photo a while back, but they are still there.

Photobucket

A watercolor picture of shells and sand dollars that my Sister painted.

Photobucket

And the jar with shells in a window.
Photobucket
That is my contribution to "Beach Party". More than likely after I post this, I will run across a couple of other things I could have included, as that happened when I joined in the the "Feathered Friends" party. :-) If you have not already, go over to visit Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage to see what she and the other participants have to share.
Have a great day!

Met. Monday

Hope everyone enjoyed your weekend. It has been sort of a quiet weekend. 2 of the Grands were here from late Friday afternoon til late morning Sat.. They had lots of stories to share about their new teachers, seeing their friends at school again, etc.

Time for Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/.

I have been working on several "little" projects lately, and decided it was time to finish some of them up before starting anything else. I have had a severe case of AAADD (Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder) for some time now. I have to much "unfinished stuff" sitting around, so this post is a couple of things that I am calling finished at this point.

Remember this lady?

Photobucket

Here she is in some of her finery. The scarf is temporary, til I find something different to use, and is wearing 4 of the necklaces I have made. I am calling this project finished.Photobucket

This was an old necklace given to me in case I could use it in a repurposed jewelry project. The chain, old style clasp and metal beads were to far gone to repurpose, so took it apart. The dark on the beads is the tarnish from the old tarnished metal, so wet the end of a toothpick to clean out the inside of the beads - worked pretty good. Sill have some to clean. will work on them when I have nothing better to do. :-)

Photobucket Forgot to take pictures of the work in progress as was in a hurry to finish, get table cleared off so we would have a place to eat Fri. night.

Used some of the glass beads with new sterling plated chain and beads and WA-LA! Project finished! Will use the remaining beads in other projects.

Photobucket

If you have not already, so over to see what Susan and the other participants have to share this week.

Have a great week.

Thrifty Treasure & Met. Monday

Time for "Today's Thrifty Treasure" hosted by Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality http://southernhospitalityblog.com/ and Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ . Thank you Rhoda and Susan for hosting these two events.A couple of weeks ago I stopped by a yard/garage sale and found this little lady. The seller wanted $10 for her, but she had
several pieces of wicker that were broken, so I went on to look at other things. I was not sure I could repair her very well, but asked if she would take $5, and she agreed.
Photobucket
Got her home, took out my trusty z6000 glue, dental floss, wire cutters and scissors and went to work. Some of the broken pieces were missing the other end, so most of those got snipped off, then I started glueing and tying in place until the glue dried.
Photobucket
A day or so later, I removed the "stitches".
Photobucket

Then outside to get a new coat of paint.
Photobucket
And Wa - La !
Photobucket As of right now, she will go in the guest room and hold some of the necklaces I have made. I will be looking around for a stand of some kind to sit her on, and I am thinking a plant stand just might work. That is my contribution this week. If you have not already, go over to visit Rhoda and Susan to see what they and the other participants have to share this week. Hope you have a great week.

Feathered Friends Party

Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage http://www.theshabbychiccottage.net/ is hosting a Feathered Friends Party for 8/12/09. Since I have a lot of birds and birdcages around my home, I thought I would join in. I did a post on my faux feather friends in January, so some of you may have already seen most of these. Some of the pictures I had already taken back in January and only have them in photobucket and they won't post any larger for some reason. Won't have time to retake today. This pretty bird hangs out in my living room window.

These are camped out in my dining room window.

Then there is the one birdhouse that I have. My daughter gave me this a few years ago for Christmas.
Photobucket I think that is all of the feathered friends and their homes that I have sharing my space, but I won't make any promises. :-)

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Thrifty Treasures & Met. Monday

It is that time of the week again. Time for "Today's Thrifty Treasures" hosted by Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality http://southernhospitalityblog.com/.

I did not go to any yardsales this weekend for a couple of reasons - #1 IT IS HOT OUT THERE ! Also, I needed to get caught up on some things around here. A week ago Saturday, I was on my way somewhere else and spotted a couple of sales close to each other and of course I had to be stop. First sale was a dud. The house was very pretty on the outside, well kept and very nice neighborhood. The garage door was open and that was where the "pretty" stopped. It was piled high with "stuff", mainly just junk and I don't mean "lets go junkin" kind of junk. Lots of boxes, pieces of wood, etc. and a lot of it looked water damaged and the smell was - well - I am not sure what it smelled like, it was not very pleasant. She had a few things piled up on some tables, most was dirty. She may have had the treasure of the century somewhere in there, but I was not going to stick around to look for it. Stopped at another one not to far from the first and that is where I got these 2 bargains. I have no clue about these games , but saw this XBox for $40, with all it's controls, cords, etc. I know they are pretty pricey new and the lady and her son assured me that it worked fine. Said he was selling it as he upgraded to the 360. I tried to call my daughter to see if she was interested in the Grands having it, but could not reach her. I know the XBox 360 is the thing to have now, but thought this might be ok for the kids. Took the chance and bought it and it turned out they did not have one.

Photobucket

At the same sale I got this silver plated bowl for $2 - still in the original wrapping and box.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I will also join in for "Metamorphosis Monday" hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/.
This is just a small contribution. Some of you probably remember me trying to decide where to hang this little "thing" with the hooks , and I asked for your opinion. The vote was unanimous - I hung it in the 1/2 bath next to the candle holder redo. I will eventually add a small object in the corner also . As we all know - odd numbers. :-)

The corner of the vanity before - Photobucket

After -

Photobucket
I left the little piece of ribbon on the key, as there is a picture on the opposite wall with that color in it, but may take it off.
These are my contributions for Metamorphosis Monday and Today's Thrifty Treasures. If you have not already go by and visit Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch and Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality to see what they and the other participants have to share with us.
Off to HD or L's to buy more "decorator's helper" (spray paint). :-) Got another project in the works.
Hope you have a great week!

Dab of This and That

I have been busy today playing catch up around here, as I have been busy with jury duty all week. It seems they were determined to use my services this week. Called on a case - dismissed due to something that happened to my daughter less than 2 years ago. Called on another case - dismissed as it was settled without a jury at the last minute. Called on another case - I served and finished last night. Yay ! ! ! I am a "people watcher", and believe me, I have had more than my share of that this week. I met and talked with some very nice and interesting people (one who is very well known in this area), and unfortunately was in the company of a few that I had rather not have been. Also, I am very claustrophobic in certain situations and it was tested "to the hilt" a little over a week ago when I went to be "qualified" and had to park in underground parking and was directed to the lowest level. :-( IS THERE A SYMBOL FOR PANIC ATTACK ? !? ! ?
So today has been a day of laundry, cleaning out the fridge (lots of leftovers from "to go" food this week), cleaning bathrooms, mopped the kitchen floor, etc., etc.. I also cleaned out some clothes and shoes - bagged them up and put them in the trunk of my car to take to GW. Had hoped to get some painting done today in order to finish up some projects, but it is just to hot.

Have you ever wondered what a scratch on an eye looked like? Probably not! I was going thru some photos and ran across this one, that my daughter sent me back in June. We all heard growing up "don't do that - you will put somebody's eye out" or "don't do that or someone is going to get hurt". Well it happened - one of my Grands swung a pool stick around and hit another Grand in the eye. Thank goodness , it only scratched it and it is healed now after 2 weeks of antibiotic drops and wearing sun glasses. This is a picture my Daughter sent me that she took when the ER put some type of drops in his eye to photo the injury - the neon green part is the scratch.
Photobucket
This is a necklace I made by repurposing a broach that I bought at a yardsale many years ago. The rose beads are old - think I bought them at a bead shop. The black glass beads and chain are new materials.
Photobucket
I am so far behind reading everyone's posts to see what you have been up to, I don't know that I will ever get caught up. I have found that it is very easy to get behind.
Just another Dab of This and That !
IT IS FRIDAY ! ! ! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND ! !

Metamorphosis Monday

It is hard to believe Monday is rolling around again. This is my first time to join Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/. Thanks Susan for hosting this event.

For those of you that have read my blog lately, you know that I got some great bargains at Hobby Lobby recently. I knew when I bought some of the items, they would be changed to meet my needs, and this post is about some of those changes. But first - I changed up these 2 mirror frames that I already had . They were a antique gold . Started spraying the first one and almost forgot to take before pictures. I have been blogging since the end of November - you would think I knew the "drill" by now ! :-)

Before. No that is not my wall. :-) It is an old shower curtain I lay on the patio to do my spray painting.

Photobucket

Photobucket

After - These are hung on a small section of wall next to a 1/2 bath. Sorry photo not better - flash reflected off of the mirrors to photo them straight on.

.Photobucket

Remember this?

Photobucket

And this?

Photobucket

Well look at us now ! ! ! Chopped off to much on this picture. : (

PhotobucketPhotobucket

OK - Now I have a question. The candle stick is in the 1/2 bath. Should I hang the piece with the hooks here ? ? Sorry not a better picture, but did not have an extra hand around when I took the pictures and I did not want to put a nail in the wall and decide I don't like it there.

Photobucket

Or here ?

Photobucket

I think I am going more towards hanging it next to the candle holder. I have some reproductions of old keys that are 3 to 4 inches long (bought at Kirklands some time ago) to hang on the hooks .

If you have not already, go over to visit Susan to see what she and the other participants have to share with us today.

As of right now, there is a possibility that I am going to be in and out (more out than in) this week. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone is posting about, but it may be a while before I get around to visiting you, so please don't think I posted then just disappeared.

Hope everyone has a great week.
