A Dab of This and That Ramble

Just a "quick ramble" to let you know I am still around.
Sometimes other things happen in life and we need to change our priorities.
Praying all the "unexpected goings on"  will settle down to a much smoother ride in life very soon.
**********
I purposely did not post an explanation about my "semi hiatus" from the land of blog, due to privacy reasons (concerns someone else).  However, I want to say a "Very Special Thanks" to those that inquired about my absence and as a result sent their much appreciated prayers and healing thoughts.  You will never know how much they mean - Thank You!!!  I am in the process of answering emails, etc. and hope to be caught up in the very near  future.

The "Nitty Gritty" of everyday "stuff" !
Long list of "to dos" while out and about playing catch up on errands,  one of which is get that nasty car washed!  We all know the one - looks like a dust bunny rolling down the street. You have to turn on the windshield (even on a sunny day)  to clear a space so you can see where you are going.     First stop - pulled up and a luxury car is parked just outside of the exit of the carwash with all of the car doors open, and a man  (appeared to be the owner and was NOT happy), and another person with a clipboard with pen in hand appeared to be inspecting the car and writing a report.  Rolled down the window and asked if it was out of order and was told that "there has been  an incident".  Turned around and moved on, ran another errand and stopped at another car wash and the entrance was blocked - out of order.
Guess I will continue to drive around in a dirty car! So if you see something traveling down the road that looks like a very large dust bunny - it may just be me!

DO NOT put mayo on my muffuletta !!!  While out I stopped for a sandwich to go. Muffuletta and a side of potato salad  - have not had one in a while (due to salt over load). Got home turned on computer, grab a bottle of water, sat down to eat, took a big bite of the sandwich ....What is that?!? Lifted the top half of the bread and there was a thick layer of mayo on top of a very small amount of olive salad !  Good grief - Stop messing with the real deal!    Make note - Call restaurant manager!
*****
Why is it we crave certain things to eat at odd times - especially late at night?  I have done that a lot recently   - NO!!!! I am not.....Get that thought out of your head!!!!!!!!!
For some reason I have been craving things like turtle pie, cheesecake, etc.   What is unusual about this?   Given a choice - I nearly always prefer savory (not sweet).  I have been really super stressed out recently so don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.  I did pick up a 2 slice pkg. of turtle pie at the grocery and indulged, but think I would have satisfied the craving more had I bought the whole pie and cut my own size serving. :)

Temps in mid to high 90's all week, so may be a good time to get caught up on a few things around the Dab of This and That abode - maybe!

Wild Life in the Courtyard

Sitting at the computer, typing away and looked up to see a cardinal feeding a "kid,  fresh out of the nest".  At first, I wondered why the adult male was feeding another grown bird since it was just as large as it was.  Then after watching for a couple of minutes, I saw it flapping, exercising its wings and could see it was pretty young.  Hard to get a good pic, but the adult was offering it bits of dead bug - Ewww!  Yeah - I know...
Well apparently Dad did not serve it up fast enough and "junior" grabbed the rest and took off running.
Have had a lot of wrens and robins this year, but gave up trying to get a good picture, they move a lot faster than I do.
Chipmunks have been back, but not a lot recently.  They usually visit in the morning, but since we have had  a lot of rain recently (not to mention the temps are back up), guess they have stayed closer to their "abode" wherever that is.
The cooler than normal temps we have had recently packed up and moved on, and the  typical Summer hot/humid days have returned.  Saw a couple of squirrels laid out on the fence cooling off today when the heat index hit 105.  No current pic as  they ran off when I opened the door.  Took this pic 3(?) years ago of one doing the same.

That is what is going on in the courtyard these days!!

Just Another Dab of This and That Ramble

Yes - I have been missing.  Even tho blogging has been my escape/place to retreat to from everyday life and its "going ons", some times  even it has to be put aside for a while.
*******
Gotta have a picture you know......
Snow in July ?  Nope! Someone sent me this pic that was taken one morning in July last year, at a city fountain  in small town USA. Don't think the city maintenance workers were to happy about this, and it was not the first time someone threw soap in the fountain last Summer.
********
Temps unseasonably cool for the month of July recently, and after having my morning coffee, decided I needed to get out and try to clear my head for a bit. Had not been to any estate and/or yard sales in some time, so checked the estate sale listings in the area,  and only one looked interesting.  Advertised and pictures of a lot of old costume jewelry - a table twice the length of a card table and another card table piled up.  So off I went - nice area, house well kept/neat on outside, lots of customers - looked promising.  Well so much for that thought!  I am guessing the person(s) that had lived there were hoarders, and had an aversion to cleaning.  We are not talking short term here, but years of accumulation, many years.

Looked around and did not see the tables of jewelry, so asked one of the workers of the sale, and she said they sold all the jewelry as soon as they opened.  Hearing that more and more these days, as so many people are into the repurposing, selling on websites, etc.  She then told me and some others coming in that it was  $5 for all you can fit in a bag, regardless of what it was or price marked.  Lots were filling bags up, but I was on a mission for old/vintage bling only, and still trying to clean out my own clutter, not to mention allergies went into overdrive, so decided to leave.   When leaving I noticed a huge pile of carpet and padding over to the side, that had been taken out of the house.  Oh my - glad I did not buy anything. :/

Well...So much for "sale hopping" on a cooler than normal July morning - went on to run some errands, picked up a chicken, pecan, grape salad sandwich for lunch, came home and did a surgical scrub up to my elbows, then sat down to lunch.   Afterwards vacuumed, tidied up the place a bit, took out the garbage, and decided I really need to get serious about decluttering around here.  Why is it when you go in places like that, you get the urge to go home and clean - at least it does me. Shudder!!!!!
Oh stop laughing - I bet some of you have been in places like that also! :-D

Still visiting around the land of blogs as time allows.  Hope to be back more often in the "very near future".
Have a wonderful week !!!!!

Not Much Has Changed

in the courtyard since I posted here,
but thought I would share the red geranium that survived over the Winter (which is unusual here), and has finally come to life with its pretty red blooms.  Just in time for the 4th of July....

A Simple Fix - Should Have Thought of it Before Now..

Over the last few years I have tried several things to hold a lid rack on the inside of the cabinet door, without making it permanent, etc..  I used one of the heavy duty, stick on type of hooks and it worked fine, and lasted about a year and half, until the bottom of the rack got caught on the handle of a heavy skillet and pulled it loose when the door was opened. Did not remember what brand the hook was or where I bought it and tried a couple of different ones - none of which would hold.  The "light bulb came on upstairs" - make a hook to go over the door out a wreath holder that I already have.

Even tho it was light weight/flexible metal, cutting off the long part was not easy.  However, with a lot of persistence, and bending it back and forth  "umpteen dozen +1" times with a pair of pliers - wa-la!  It was a shiny chrome, so wrapped the part that would be seen on the outside of the door  with black electrical tape.
Pretty - No!

Functional - Yes!
Now to find all the smaller lids that have magically disappeared into the "black hole", also known as the back of the cabinet.  Lets face it - Dab of This and That is not getting any younger, so the less I have to bend searching for something that got shoved into the "black hole" the happier my knees and lower back will be.

In my rounds yesterday, stopped at  the produce market to buy some in season veggies and fruit. When got home, put everything away - or so I thought.  Fast forward - today needed to go to post office, and see if there were any empty boxes outside a liquor store (great for packing glass items that are being passed on to their new home).  Got in the car to leave - Good grief! The smell of ripe cantaloupe closed up in a warm trunk for at least 24 hrs. is not very pleasant.  Quick trip to post office, went to closest liq. store - no boxes.  Decided I did not have to have them today and not worth driving around looking for boxes with a stinky cantaloupe in the car.
*********
Looks like I will be spending some time outside the next few days - No heat wave this week.....
******
Oh - Where is the stinky cantaloupe now?  In my kitchen smelling  up the place.
Time to get off the computer, cut the cantaloupe up, put in container with a tight lid,  in fridge, and take the stinky rinds to the garbage.

Flowers for Me ?

Actually, this is a photo of some flowers I received a couple of years ago - just needed a pic for the post, you know.
Taking a break for a few minutes,   been standing on my head (well almost), cleaning out and organizing the contents under my kitchen sink.  Shame on me for letting it get that bad.  Actually I have an excuse - When my allergies flare up, I tend to get fluid in my inner ear and many times I don't know it is there until I bend over and/or tilt my head back and when I straighten up things go spinning.  Not a good feeling, and can be dangerous if I am not holding onto something.
So why did I take on that little project now?
Because of this.......
To hot to hit the streets or play outside, so thought it would be a good time to mark off at least one thing on that ever growing "L" word.
Now if I can find a good excuse why some of the other things have not been done.

A strawberry shake with whipped cream sure sounds good about now.  Nah!  To hot to go get one.
Back to sorting those half filled containers and the tool box - where did all this stuff come from anyway?!?

Just another Dab of This and That ramble.
Hope you are staying cool where you are.
