Winter

Winter Trees............

The snow pictures were taken Jan. 10, and Feb. 9.

No snow here today - Thank goodness! Hopefully we don't get any more of the "white stuff" this Winter. It is 72 as I sit here typing. The bad news is that "they" are predicting possible severe weather tonight into tomorrow morning.

Just a Dab of This and That

What does this picture have to do with this post? Not a single thing - just thought everyone out there in the land of blog who is tired of snow, cold rain, gray and brown landscapes, might enjoy some flowers.

Thank You: Thank you so much for all the nice compliments on the jewelry I make - it means a lot. It is something I really enjoy doing.

An Observation: Recently, I was looking for something I had posted about a while ago, and noticed some typos/spelling errors that I did not catch before I posted . Many times I am on the computer "hit and run", and don't do a very good job of proof reading. Is this common in the "land of blog", or am I just a sloppy blogger? :D Anyway - If you see my errors, feel free to let me know, or just pretend they are not there.

Blast From the Past: Recently, my daughter asked me if I knew how to macrame (she knows how old I am) . Even in it's "hay day", I never did learn. She remembers the hangers I had when she was growing up with the airplane plants and pothos that hung in the dining area window (they were becoming outdated then).
Another blast from the past - Remember taking wicker covered wine bottles/demi johns using them for candle holders, and letting the wax drip all down the sides. What were we thinking?!?! I had some of those and am pretty sure they got pitched in the trash or sold in a yard sale for a quarter or fifty cents (if you were lucky). Do you know what vintage wicker covered wine bottles like that cost now days !?!? :-D

I can just hear it now - Some bloggers out there are going "what is she talking about"?
That would be the "younger" group . :-D

Have a great weekend !!

Finished !

I did a post back in October about an unplanned "junkin trip" (posted here) when my plans for the afternoon got changed. However, I ended up with a few things to repurpose, and one of them was the cameo . I asked the young woman at the sale if she knew anything about it, she just said it was "in her Grandmother's things". Don't remember (there goes that memory issue again), but think I paid 75 cts. (?). It was originally a broach and part of the pin was broken, so I took the rest of it off.
Recently, I gathered up some of my stash of supplies........
The thin chain does not always cooperate, and the necklace is sorta "fragile" as I had to use thin eye pins on the dyed freshwater pearls. The holes were not very big and I was to lazy to use a bead reamer (I have serious issues with anything that has a sharp point).
And this is the end result.........................

Giveaway and Dab of This and That

I am here to spread a little gossip ! Many of you already know Betsy @ My Salvaged Treasures
Well - Let me tell you what she is doing these days - She is having a giveaway to celebrate 200 + friends (followers)! I know it is not nice to gossip, but she gave permission to spread this gossip - so go on over there to get the whole story. Oh - A little more gossip about her ! She repurposes vintage and old jewelry, buttons and bit and pieces of all kinds of things - That's the truth I tell you !! While you are over there click "My Website Shop" on her sidebar, and find out how talented she is.

Welcome: I want to say "Welcome" to all the new "Readers". I always try to warn everyone - I have a tendency to ramble. :D

Just a couple of necklaces I made lately. I don't know the age on the broach. I keep looking at it, and don't think it is vintage. The rest is new material except for the little oval bead at the end as it was in a gab bag I got a while back. The large oval is shell, and the  hearts are mother of pearl.
Click picture to enlarge.
This one is a combination of vintage and new. The chain that is black and gold, heart and key are vintage, and I made the black glass bead chain from new materials.
Played around with this picture and changed it to black and white.
I did not do any "junkin" this weekend for a couple of reasons. I need to use up some of the supplies I already have, other things going on, not to mention my tummy was not on it's best behavior - nuff said about that.
So....What have I accomplished today besides play on the computer ? Taxes ! ! ! Is it Happy Hour yet ?!?!
Have a great week !

Update on a Post From the Past

Some of you may remember this house and this post from March, 2009? I have not worked on any of my miniatures in some time now.

Posted March, 2009:

I have really been slacking lately, and have not worked on any of my miniatures or jewelry in quiet some time now (spending to much time on computer) :-) . The San Franciscan is my main miniature project at this point in time.

Photobucket
I started putting some flooring in and got frustrated. The alcoves in front of the bay windows are the problem, and I don't really want to buy a tool to cut the flooring. Think I will check around and see if someone has a small power tool to cut it with. Had to walk away from it for a while and have not gone back. Just may have to go a different route with the floors. I did do some wall measurements, so need to decide if I will wallpaper or paint the walls. This is what the inside looks like right now.

Photobucket

I am anxious to start putting the furniture and decorative objects inside. I would rather decorate, than do the construction work. :-)
..........................................................................................
Update almost 2 years later:
I could write that same post and it would be almost the same today. The part about jewelry - I do work on it off and on.
My miniatures? Well that is another story.
This is what the San Franciscan looks like now. About the only thing I have done is put some furniture in it to see if it is going to work out. Never did find any wall paper I wanted to use.

During the holidays, I mentioned to my children and grands, that I have been thinking about getting rid of the house and got this "what ?!?!?!?" reaction. So not sure what direction to take at this point in time.

Estate Sale Bling

Went to a couple of estates sales recently , but did not find a lot. First one advertised a lot of costume jewelry, and yes there was a lot. However the prices were on the high side, and none of it was marked so you had to ask the price (don't like having to do that). Told the sale worker what I was looking for to repurpose, and she said "we have had several people in today that does the same thing". Looked around at the furniture, and accessories (even tho was not in the market for any), and there were several antique pieces. An antique baby cradle on rockers for $650 was getting a lot of attention, but no one seemed interested in buying. Anyway, no purchases made there. Ran a couple of errands and stopped at another estate sale. Very little jewelry, but priced more reasonable, so did get these pieces to repurpose. The earrings have the old screw on backs.

A Touch of Blue

Not doing much these days that would be in the category of decorating, just a small change here and there. I did add some more cobalt blue in the window in the dining area. Added the squirrel that was on top of the microwave for years, and took all the blue marbles out of the vintage candy jar (here)
Photobucket
put them in an apothecary style jar and added to the vignette. I like the way the sun shines thru the blue early in the day.
Before

After

Just a small table top change (actually it is in the window).

Probably won't be hanging out in "blogland" during the day very much this next week. Why - You ask?
Need I say more ?!?! :-D

It Was Predicted and It Came

Approx. 1:30 pm today..........
Approx. an hour later.........................
Xcuse the magic marker on the ruler . This ruler was used by my children when they were in elementary school and they are now parents them self.
Looks like it has finally stopped snowing and I think we got between 3 1/2 to 4 ins.. I am "guesstamating" that cause I am not going back out in the cold to measure it again.
Opened the back door to take these pictures and the little heater by the door went into shock! Actually it went down to 33, but got back up to 35 by the time I snapped the picture.
Talk about going from one extreme to another -
Photobucket
Yeah! I know - I should be doing something more constructive, but what can I say. Just one of those days. :-D

Oh - By the way! All you "bloggers" that live up North and deal with this "stuff" all the time - Stop Laughing ! :-D

Simple But Good

Cold and dreary outside! Have been trying to eat healthy lately due to all the "slip-ups" during the holidays, so was digging in the pantry trying to find something that resembled comfort food. Ahhhh Ha! A box of shells and cheese that I bought a while back when a couple of the Grands were going to be here and ended up not using. Why?? Cause one of the visiting Grands "Does Not Do Cheese" . That is another story. Anyway........I also had a pkg. of JD's breakfast sausage in the freezer, and a can of rotel tomatoes .

Rotel Shells and Cheese
Cook and prepare shells and cheese as directed.
Cook sausage till done and browned (crumbled).
Combine all with a can of rotel tomatoes.
Choose the "heat" level of the sausage and rotel tomatoes that you like. I always use Mild - What can I say -I am a Wimp. If it hurts to eat it, I do not want any - Thanks anyway!
Mix and enjoy.

I rarely make it as it is not the healthiest dish around, but it hit the spot on a cold Winter day. My daughter came by for a quick visit, and filled up a "bowl to go", which was a good thing, as it got the temptation out of the house.
Simple? Yes!
Like shells and cheese , sausage, rotel? Give it a try (when you are NOT watching your diet).
Just one of those little "No No Treats" in life!
I am linking up with Michael Lee @ Foodie Friday (even tho not really a Valentine's dish),
and I am linking up with Laurie @ A Few of My Favorite Things Saturday.
I think I need a good dose of "get up and go", as my "get up and go" took a hike ! Probably went further South for warmer temps and sunshine. I had all these plans about what I wanted to accomplish before Spring, so could get a painter in here. It is just not happening - seems like I am just moving things around.

Just saw the weather report for the next week ! More "white stuff" in the forecast - think I need to join my "get up and go" if it did go South!

Enjoy your weekend!
