Another Dab of This and That Ramble...

Think most all of us have bought potatoes and had them them to sprout roots before they could be used.  Well this sweet potato started sprouting roots only a couple of days after  it was bought, and the next thing I know, one root broke thru the wrap and took off.
Almost 17 inches tall and still growing.
Lots of other roots under the microwave covering, so plan to cut the potato up into 2 or 3 pieces,  plant them and see what happens. A pretty sweet potato vine - Maybe?
Why not planted today? One of those gray, dreary,  with a light rain off and on most of the day. Why did I not take pic outside of door? It was raining - again.
Instead of planting a sprouting sweet potato, took a nap - Works for me!

Looks like "Chubby Cheeks"  the chipmunk is back!  Actually he never left or hibernated full time for the Winter, as I saw him numerous times in very cold weather, scurrying across the courtyard looking for bits and pieces of acorns and hickory nuts the squirrels dropped. Just hoping he/she stays out of flowers this year - or is that asking too much?!?
The bitter cold Winter does not seemed to have effected the squirrel population around here either.  From what I can tell, it has doubled since last year. Not good!

Question:  What do y'all do with all your Birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, Sympathy, Thank You's, etc., etc. cards received?  When looking for something recently, I was surprised how many I had accumulated again.  Don't get me wrong - love receiving them and will leave them out in a convenient place where I can enjoy/reread occasionally, then off they go to a storage box.

A few years ago, I made the mistake of asking someone what she did with hers.  Why the mistake? She is very sentimental and apparently has kept ALL  (sorry - did not mean to yell) , yes - all of hers over the years.
Would love to hear  others' solution to the situation.

ETA: Never planted the sweet potato, so sent it home with daughter. I figure she would have  better luck than me, as she could add of little of the dirt that has been amended with "barnyard brand fertilizer" to the mix and end up with some very healthy plants. The sprout/root was over 3 feet tall when it left here.

Yep, I'm with you that when it rains, perfect time for a nap and then, when I wake up, a sweet snack with hot tea. ummm

Glenda - I just cannot get rid of cards. I put them in those photo boxes and ever so often pull them out and go thru them. I just did that last week. They make mr very nostalgic about events of the past.

Those cards do bring back special moments but you are right. Where to keep them in the meantime. I like your idea of having a few out to read.

I'm sure your daughter will end up with an abundance of sweet potatoes soon. Sweet Potato Pie! I used to save all my cards, now it's just the really special ones.

Cold and rainy here today too! I hate chipmunks! They do so much damage here. We had hawks in the yard and I thought they had gotten all of them but sadly not. Squirrels too - vermin! I think I should be typing in capital letters - LOL. I'm not a card saver. I will save them for a few weeks or months and then into the trash.

Glenda, Quite a few years ago I helped out with scouts when my youngest grandson was in. For one project we planted a sweet potato. Hadn't even sprouted. Just made sure each boy's potato had an eye. My grandsons grew into a beautiful vine. It looked very similar to the sweet potato vines we buy at the nurseries. Sorry to say that the other boys didn't have as much luck. I don't think they were as faithful at watering it as we were. I no longer save all of my cards. By our age we can have zillions. If it has something very sweet written inside that is dear to me I save it. Or if If I can recycle and use part of it in a craft or another card I make I save it. Other wise it does end up in the trash. I read and enjoy them for a while and then it's off to file #13. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann

Hi Glenda

Just playing catch up with some of my blog friends. It's been awhile and I've been very busy with my new job and family. All is well and it sounds like you are well too.

I'me a keeper but only for about a year from non-immediate family members. Immediate family I have every single card and note.

Enjoy your week!

I recently read a good book about de-cluttering and there was a special chapter dedicated to cards. According to the book, the greeting card has completed its job once its been delivered and you get the message of love and attention. After that you should let it go. I recycle pretty ones into little art projects, the rest I just recycle.

I didn't know you could plant a potato to get a potato! We have a ton of squirrels in my yard all the time and I have caught then INSIDE my bird feeder. No chipmunks though. Although they are just as pesky, I think they are adorable. I have a drawer in a file cabinet full of cards from long ago. Can't seem to part with them. I have friend that uses the front to make paper crafts or other cards. I never got around to doing that!

Hi Glenda,

So sorry to hear about your dreary weather! Maybe it's better than the sweltering heat we've been getting down here. I love that little chipmunk picture. We have tons of those little guys up at the cabin and they are he cutest little things. Would love to catch one one day and snuggle it. Lol. He would probably bite my face off, ha ha. Good to see you stop through my blog the other day and sorry to hear you've had family drama too. It's never fun is it? Take care and remember, sunny days are just around the corner!
