A Dab of This and That Ramble...

A freeze warning was in the forecast:    So what did daughter do?   She grab all her pots of herbs and took them inside, and hoped the last of those planted in ground will make it until they can be harvested, and dried for future use.
Pots of sage, and mint...
How do you dry them? Make garlands and enjoy how pretty they look adorning her open shelves with her collection of vintage dishes.  After dried,  take them down, chop and package them for future use.
Rosemary
Fortunately, I am a recipient of a supply of rosemary, and sage from her which I use in chicken or pork dishes.
******
Sort of a skimpy crop of pecans:  As mentioned in a previous post, a fungus damaged the pecan crop on 3 of their threes this year, but she hoped to still have an abundance from the one tree not affected.  Sounds good, til the neighborhood squirrels and all their friends and relatives showed up, and  harvested what fell before they could get to them, plus could reach the ones at the very top.
Drying before stored for later use.

A tasty addition to a meal:  Ambrosia is one of those things I don't think about making.  It is like soup - can't make just a small amount.  Anyway,  someone made up  a batch and contributed to our lunch recently.  A tasty treat....
Which made me think of the famous green pistachio, fruit salad named after the  famous hotel, with the initials of WG.  Another day, as rainy, cold, and dreary outside, and not wanting it bad enough to make a trip to the grocery.
*******
I see a  big pot of ham bone soup in the near future.
Any Thanksgiving left overs in your fridge or freezer with a future starring role in another dish?
******
Ahhh! Bacon ! Ever wanted a strip or two of crisp bacon to add on a salad, grilled cheese,  crumbled into an omelet, etc. but did not want the take the time to cook or clean up after frying? Had a package that needed cooking or frozen, so did both. Will freeze and take out as needed, zap in microwave, and add the yum to a dish at a later date as needed.
I seem to have food on the brain today - Cold, rainy, dreary days tend to do that.
******
Time to put the remnants of Fall away....
and this mischievous character will be making an appearance in the near future.

Matter of opinion:  I get the notice to upgrade to Windows 10 almost every time I turn the computer these days. Question for those that have used the free upgrade:  Are you happy with the upgrade or regret making the change?  Any minor or big issues that had to be worked out? I have done a bit of research and am seeing some mixed reviews, so would like to hear  some tried and true opinions.

Just another one of those Dab of This and That Rambles.
Have a great week.

Now you're really making me hungry! Everything looks delicious. I keep getting the notice to upgrade, but I'm holding off. I've heard a few horror stories and just don't want to take the chance.

Your post is making me hungry :) I have some parsley that is still alive outside although I cover it with a big plastic bowl at night. I get those notifications all the time too but just ignore them. I have Windows 8 Professional so it would actually be a downgrade for me.

Nothing like a cold, rainy day to fry up some bacon and have food on the brain! My herbs all died long ago...but I still have a bunch of perfectly good funky pumpkins and decorative gourds. I am so mad that they are still good because I want to decorate my porch for Christmas/winter!

I've upgraded to windows 10 a while back and have been very pleased. I've heard some stories but thankfully did not have any problems myself. Happy Tuesday,
Amalia

I couldn't get the new windows thingie to load... it was taking for.ever. So, I don't have it :-) I LOVE that pistachio fruit salad. My friend makes it every potluck we attend! I've seen where people have made it with orange too.. although I haven't tried that-- yet :-)

a great post...and i LOVE having bacon when I need it. :)
I, too, get the UPGRADE TO WIN. 10" and I ignore it. I am still using Win 7, knowing Win. 8 caused a lot of people a lot of stress. Have heard from friends that Win 10 is a nightmare...so I am not going to upgrade. Wish I knew how to get the reminders OFF my computer....
