Outdoor Wednesday

Time again for "Outdoor Wednesday" hosted by Susan @ A Southern Daydreamer" http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Because it has been so hot here lately, with heat index readings in the triple digits, I have not been going outside any more than I have to. So decided to dig into my photos for pictures of the outdoors. As some of you know, I did a post on March 28th about the Carnton Plantation, Franklin, TN http://dabofthisandthat.blogspot.com/2009/03/carnton-plantation-franklin-tn.html These are some of the pictures I took last Fall of the Military Cemetary.

This picture is of the formal gardens next to the house. To the left, you can see white tents set up where special events such as weddings, receptions, etc., are held.

Hope you enjoyed this little tour. I had hoped to go back to Franklin this Spring, but to many other things got in the way - maybe this Fall.

If you have not already, go over to see what she and the other participants have to share. Thank you Susan for hosting "Outdoor Wednesday".

Hope everyone is having a great week.

A Cloche Party

Thought I would join the "Cloche Party" hosted by Marty @ http://astrollthrulife.blogspot.com/. I wanted a cloche for a long time but just could not bring myself to pay the price. Finally bought one at a shop in Franklin, TN last Fall at a good price, and love decorating with it. This what it looks like now

Photobucket

A close up. Don't know why the glass looks cloudy.Photobucket
This is how I had it decorated for Christmas and Winter.

Photobucket
This beauty is one I found at Tues. Morning in April. I don't have anything under the glass - I have tried different things, but always take it out, The glass has a design etched in it, and I think it is pretty as it is for now (I already had the stand).

Photobucket

Not a cloche (individul butter dish) :-), but I put a peep under the dome at Easter time. I have a battery op. candle under there now.

Photobucket
I understand apothocary jars are allowed also. One with Shells - I used rubons to spell out shells. The other has a bit of faux ivy and a faux butterfly.

Photobucket
Little vignette in my dining area window.

Photobucket
I have another apothocary jar that is a little larger, but nothing decorative in it right now - just some candy.

Hope you have enjoyed seeing my decor under glass. If you have not already, lets all join Marty @ http://astrollthrulife.blogspot.com/ to see what she and the other participants have to share. Thanks Marty for hosting this fun event. I am looking forward to seeing everyone's decor under glass.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Outdoor Wednesday

Time for "Outdoor Wednesday" hosted by Susan @ http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Monday I did a post on the storms that rolled thru the area late Friday afternoon/early evening. These are a couple photos I took of the sky - The calm after the storm. To the right of the rainbow, there is a faint hint of a double rainbow. By the time I got my camera most of it had disappeared.

Few minutes later -

Why no pictures of the storm you ask? I was in the bathroom, listening the the sirens going off and saying a prayer!! Still a lot of people without power today. If you have not already, stop over to visit Susan @ A Southern Daydreamer to see what she and the other participants have to share on Outdoor Wednesday.
Sat down the other day and brought my "to do" list up to date and got it organized (kinda sorta). You know -" important stuff", "I really need to tend to stuff", "outdoor stuff" "things I want to do stuff", etc., etc. I had good intentions of getting some of those things done this week. So far let me see ----I did get one of the birdcages ( bought in April) hung in the courtyard, and the other one got a fresh coat of paint (as you can tell - important things :-)). I had good intentions of getting a lot done today - Yep! I sure did (insert rolling eyes here). I left with my "I need list" and the first stop would be that dreaded trip to WM. Well what can I say - I never made it, instead I went by to visit a bead shop, and then there is HL right across the street. Can't be that close and not go in - right? 45 mins. later (with my bank account still in tact), I decided it was way past my lunch time, so stopped by a local pizza place - food cooked when ordered - none of that fast food stuff. :-) 30 mins. later back home loving every bit of that "stuff" I should not be eating - Oh, but so good! Ok - so I never made it to WM or HD, but I did visit a friend, drooled over lots at HL I wanted (but was good and did not buy), my tastebuds are happy because of what I ate, and my tummy is happy because I decided to eat something after being up over 6 hrs. and only fuled with half cup of coffee. You do what you gotta do - right?

Hope you are having a great week!

Today's Thrifty Treasure

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We had a heavy dose of bad weather in this area, late Friday afternoon. Lots of damage from straight line winds - trees and power lines down, and thousands still without power today. My daughter was without power for about 24 hours and very fortunate she did not have damage, as a tornado touched down, causing a lot of damage, close to where she lives. One touched down about 12 miles South and another about the same distance North of me. The good thing, there were no deaths or serious injuries. I was fortunate with no damage, just had to pick up lots of small limbs. Another line of storms came thru this morning, but fortunately not severe.

Ok - Time for "Today's Thrifty Treasure" hosted by Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/ . I have posted a couple of times in the past about some real treasures I found when a neighbor moved and this is another one of them - This little girl sitting on a bench statue. I took this photo in April, before all the heavy, constant rains took such a tow on my flowers. Free is good!!!

If you have not already, go over to see what Thrifty Treasures Rhoda and all the other participants have to share this week.
Hope everyone has a great week.

ETA: Thanks for your suggestions on how to remove the stain on my tub. Now I just need to get busy and do something about trying to get it off. :-)

Outdoor Wednesday

Wednesday again - and time for "Outdoor Wednesday" hosted by Susan @ http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com. Few weeks ago I found a baby bird in my courtyard and could tell immediately it's neck was broken. :( I left it alone, knowing there was nothing I could do for it. Don't know if it fell or got pushed out of the nest. My Daughter came over later that day and put on a paper towel and held it for a while, then put it down next to a flower pot. It would try to move, but could not lift it's head up. The next morning, it was a few inches off of the paper towel and had died. Well - a few days ago one of it's sibblings paid me a visit. It stayed on the back of the chair for a long time.
Photobucket
I thought it had gone off and when I went back outside, it had hopped down on a pot of petunias.
Photobucket
The parents were very unhappy that I was out there taking pictures and to close to their "toddler". I know one thing - They should have put a diaper on that "kid" . :-D Don't know what they were feeding it, but it left a mess all over the chair, table and patio, and I had to hose everything off the next day after it traveled on.
That is where they were raised - Not a good picture. You can barely see the nest. The limbs overhang my courtyard.
Photobucket
This is my contribution to "Outdoor Wednesday". If you have not already, go on over to visit Susan to see what she and the other participants have to share today.
Hope you are having a great week

Today's Thrifty Treasures

Today is Monday and time for "Today's Thrifty Treasures" hosted by Rhoda @ http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/. I did not have any plans to check out yard sales Friday when I left out to run errands, but passed by one that looked interesting, so turned around and went back. A small bench caught my eye, but it was a little wobbley, so left it there. Then I saw 2 very heavy iron, decorative, outdoor chairs that would look great in my courtyard. But when I found out they wanted $80 for the pair, I decided they would not look that good! Left that sale and saw a sign leading to another, but their offerings looked like things I would be getting rid of. Decided to get some lunch and passed a house that the yard was full of stuff - lunch can wait. When I started up to the house, a woman yelled "sale does not start til 1:00", which I thought was a strange time to start (but it was her sale). Just enough time for a quick lunch then went back. The place was covered up with people, the woman was very loudly telling everyone she could not get things ready because so many showed up early and she went on and on. Nothing was priced and I started to leave, then spied a tarnished, silver tray with a divided, glass insert and a pie server. She said she wanted $7 for both, then I found a small wall shelf that would look good under a mirror I was in the process of painting the frame black, and when I asked the price, she yelled "that is not for sale" and took it out of my hand. Everyone was starting to give her these strange looks so I paid for the silver pieces and left. Sure hope she made it thru the day without having a break down! I think that is the first yardsale I have been to that the person acted like they did not want customers.

And after -

Now I remember why I got rid of almost all the silver I had years ago - I don't like to polish this stuff! Visit Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality and see her great yardsale finds and check out what the other participants found.
Hope everyone has a great week!
