In Memory......

For those who read my posts on occasion, more than likely have read about "Bill".  Bill (named by the "red headed cupid") showed up at my daughter's door step on a bitter cold night last Winter, looking for a  meal and a warm place to sleep, which she and her family provided for him.  Even tho Bill made himself at home, and always showed up for a meal, and a safe place to sleep when it was too cold or hot , he definitely was an outside kitty.

They never knew if someone moved and left him behind, or  was just left on the side of the road. What ever his story, he was loved and taken care of by his new family - including their spoiled indoor kitty.
And posted about  here , here, and other posts.
********
They had been gone from the house for just a short time, picked up dinner to go and when returned found Bill laying on the side of the road. Apparently he was on his way home from one of his adventures, as it was time for dinner and settle in for the night, and was hit by a truck or car.   Thankfully,  "red headed cupid" did not see him.  Bill was buried and the site will be marked another day.
Sweet, lovable, Bill has "Crossed the Rainbow Bridge".

Just Another Ramble....

Remember the "Little Red Headed Cupid"?  She is such a big girl now - hard to believe she started PreK this year.  Her Mom had a harder time dealing with the first day of school than  "Red Headed Cupid".   Most anyone with children knows how that goes.
She settled right in and found it was fun to learn, and play with new friends, etc.. She did learn real quick  -  if the teacher says don't throw the pea gravel on the playground, that is just what she meant. Ooops!!  School lunches have been an adjustment - I think pizza day and chicky nuggets with fries day are her favorites. So Mom makes sure she eats a healthy breakfast and dinner at home.

She recently enjoyed going to  a friends home who has chickens, and when feeding time came she knew what to do ( hope Mom has a good formula for removing grass stains out of those shorts).
then off to gather the eggs.

Remember "Bill" who showed up last Winter looking for  free meals, and  a warm place to sleep?  Well - he is still around and stays around daughter's feet when she is outside.  I told her he knows who runs the "chow wagon" around there.  He earns his keep, as he has been keeping the moles in their yard under control.

Another beanie hot off the needles.  Think she said this yarn is called farmers market.

A Dab of This and That Ramble....

Even tho the predicted temps for the next week do not hint that Fall is just around the corner.....
there are other signs.  Daughter is busy with her crochet needles and yarn,  adding to her family's supply of beanies to keep their heads warm when the temps drop below "just a nip" in the air.
I see a jar of the well known Fall candy has been added to the table already.  Hmmm! Reminds me -  I need to add a bag of autumn mix to my shopping list.

She is picking the last of the tomatoes and cucumbers from their garden.
Many of the tomatoes are being picked green and put in the window to ripen to keep the pests from damaging them.

Even the early morning shadows are starting to look a bit different....

Lazy, Hazy Days........

The hazy look in the background was caused by an afternoon Summer shower,
which causes the humidity to rise, but also makes the green grass grow.

Dab of This and That Outdoor Life....

A garden guardian spider my daughter found in her flower bed.
Don't know how harmless they are, but I don't think I would get close enough to find out.
Her crepe myrtle that separated down the middle.  I asked her if she thought "Bill" the stray cat that adopted her family used it to get up on their roof, as they have seen him up there a few times and not sure how he got there. Hmmm......
A squirrel in my courtyard decided it was to hot to run up and down the tree, so he sprawled out on the concrete in the shade.  Not a good pic, but had I opened the door it would have run off. Think the heat index was 107 or higher the day I took the picture.
End of a hot Summer day, a late afternoon storm rolls in....

How Does Her Garden Grow - Part 2

A variety of tomatoes - the green will go in the window to ripen. The bowl of cukes, squash and banana peppers will more than likely become pickles.
They did not grow the corn (to many deer cross their property), but bought it farm fresh from a roadside stand.
Of course there is always a cucumber  that wants to hide under the foliage, and not found until it gets to big to pickle whole.  No problem - it will probably end up in a salad or a batch of relish.

A Side Note: What happens to some of the green tomatoes that refuse to turn red?  Slice, batter,  and fry those babies up - of course.
Some in her household like ranch dressing as a dipping sauce, but for those who like something with a kick: Fire cracker sauce -  2 big spoons full of  mayo (real), sriracha to taste - depends on how hot you want it to be, and honey to taste.
