Today's Thrifty Treasures

Today is Monday and time for "Today's Thrifty Treasures" hosted by Rhoda @ http://southernhospitality-rhoda.blogspot.com/. I did not have any plans to check out yard sales Friday when I left out to run errands, but passed by one that looked interesting, so turned around and went back. A small bench caught my eye, but it was a little wobbley, so left it there. Then I saw 2 very heavy iron, decorative, outdoor chairs that would look great in my courtyard. But when I found out they wanted $80 for the pair, I decided they would not look that good! Left that sale and saw a sign leading to another, but their offerings looked like things I would be getting rid of. Decided to get some lunch and passed a house that the yard was full of stuff - lunch can wait. When I started up to the house, a woman yelled "sale does not start til 1:00", which I thought was a strange time to start (but it was her sale). Just enough time for a quick lunch then went back. The place was covered up with people, the woman was very loudly telling everyone she could not get things ready because so many showed up early and she went on and on. Nothing was priced and I started to leave, then spied a tarnished, silver tray with a divided, glass insert and a pie server. She said she wanted $7 for both, then I found a small wall shelf that would look good under a mirror I was in the process of painting the frame black, and when I asked the price, she yelled "that is not for sale" and took it out of my hand. Everyone was starting to give her these strange looks so I paid for the silver pieces and left. Sure hope she made it thru the day without having a break down! I think that is the first yardsale I have been to that the person acted like they did not want customers.

Now I remember why I got rid of almost all the silver I had years ago - I don't like to polish this stuff! Visit Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality and see her great yardsale finds and check out what the other participants found.
Hope everyone has a great week!

Looks as if it had been a real bargain. Strange woman indeed! I wish we had yard sales over here but we do not have yards after all! we all live in flats!

Funny story! Who starts a yard sale at 1PM?? Only someone like that, I guess!

Beautiful piece! I'm thinking she is not going to have a good turnout with her sale. Who starts at 1 in the afternoon??

Beautiful! You got another great deal!

That tray is fantastic, despite the conditions of sale! People are quite into tarnished silver at the moment - I think it would suit me to get into that look...

Great polishing job!! Wonder if the lady was forced to sell her stuff???

Glenda, very pretty pieces, they were a great deal. And what an attitude on that lady, she would have irritated me big time. First, I probably wouldn't have gone back after she yelled that the sale was later. That just irks me when people do that. And then not to have things out & priced, she must be a novice at yardsales!

Wow! You got that platter really shiney! I think the yard sale lady was a little stressed! Maybe getting rid of her stuff will help her chill out!

I suspect she was off her meds ;D I get like that too! Instead of silver polish, try toothpaste. I was out of polish and too lazy to go get some so I pulled out a travel tube of toothhpaste (not gel type) and went to town...worked beautifully. I have yet to buy silver polish.
