Beautiful Flowers

Took my camera for a walk yesterday and this is what we found.










Got a tree in your home? I do (not real of course), actually I have 2 of them. One between the living/dining area and one in the guest room. Everytime I have to dust them, I threaten to get rid of them.
Things are pretty soggy around here and looks like it will be that way for a while - lots of rain in the forecast. May be a good time to tackle that "To Do List". Nah - That means work. I did mark one thing off yesterday - I rehung my doorbell. Where I did have it, when someone would ring my neighbor's doorbell mine would ring also !?!?! So I changed the location - will see what happens. I think there is a way to change the frequency on one, but I have not figured that one out just yet. When one of my Grands was a baby, the baby monitor would pick up the sounds in the neighbor's baby's room - apparently they had the same kind of monitor!
Ok, I am out of here - will go look at the "list" and find something easy to do (after I visit a few blogs). Have a great weekend.

Birdcage Anyone?

I was not looking for a birdcage when I went to the antique mall last weekend, but they just seem to jump out at me. :-) This one, I would love to have. It would be so pretty painted white, but the price tag kept me from bringing it home - $225.

This one was $45, and is similiar to one I already have.. I think I paid $12 for mine at Kirkland's many years ago, and it was new.

Would this one not look so much better painted white? $75
This one got my attention - marked down to $3, and it came home with me. :)
And, I could not leave this one behind - it was $5. The 2 that I got are 13ins. tall, so won't take up a lot of room. Took the faux ivy off of the white one and had planned to give it a new paint job this weekend, but the wind is blowing oak tree squiggles (?) every where and they would have landed in the wet paint. What do you think? Got any unique ideas how to dress these up? :-)
Don't know why I like birdcages so much, but always have. In the late 60's I went to Panama, and while there we went to a market place in the mountains and it was quiet an experience. The women and children would be walking to market, barefooted and their parcels and wares balanced on their heads (I could not do that as I am uncordinated) :-), and many had babies in slings around their neck. Anyway -back to birdcages. I bought a boat shaped birdcage at that market for $3. It was made from a rattan type of material, very well put together and quiet large, and it was intended for real birds - wild parakeets were everywhere . Because I flew in and out, I had no clue as to how I was going to get my prize home, but the people we were visiting came to my rescue. They were moving back to the States shortly afterwards, so brought it back with them. I kept it for many years, had faux birds in it, then decided one day I was tired of it and sold it in a carport sale. :(

Got a couple other goodies, but will post about those later. The newly weds and Grands are on their way with wedding photos. :-)

Lets Go "Junkin"

Even tho last weekend was a very busy one, I still found time to go "junkin". Different city - different stores! This was a antique mall, good size and lots of things I would not classify as antique. :) I was already half way thru, before I decided to take pictures.

Want to go for a bike ride? I have not been on a bike in years - could be a disaster!

I thought this table would look better with a wood top painted to go with the rest of the table. Oh well, I was not going to buy it either way.
Anyone for a "sing along". Actually I can't carry a tune in a tin bucket and sure can't play the piano.
Did they have any birdcages? They sure did! How many did I buy, you ask? More on that later. :-)

Good Morning Sunshine

Beautiful weather today - sun shining and will be in low 70's. This is going to be a very busy weekend, with lots going on. I will be back next week with lots of pictures, I hope. Please cross your fingers (and toes) that we don't get the rain/stormy weather that is predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

Dab of This and That

I think this is the last little Easter vignette around the house. I put the little yellow peep under glass to keep the dust off. :-) When my Grandson was 2 yrs. old, he and his Sister got some peeps in their Easter baskets. He loved to see birds - actually any kind of wildlife outside. He decided his peeps were his pet birds, and not to be eaten. He would carry them around where ever he went, put them beside him where ever he was playing, and take care of them. He happened to walk in the kitchen just as his Mom popped a peep in her mouth, and he was devastated and yell at her to not eat the little bird. Later when he was in bed, or distracted doing something else, she took his peeps and hid them, and he never asked for them again - guess he forgot about them. :-) He is a few years older now, still loves the wildlife, but thinks it is ok to eat the marshmallow peeps. :-)

Weather great today, so took a long walk around the neighborhood and admired the pretty flowers.
My Grandmother had these flowers, and we used to call them "Snowball Bushes" - don't know what the real name is - just think they are so pretty. This bush is huge.

Jars - A Remember When

I am sure many of you out there in blogland don't remember, when many times candy was kept in jars at the local store. When someone wanted to buy some, they would just reach in take out the number of pieces they wanted (with a bare hand no less). Well, most of the time the pieces were wrapped, or the store clerk would use tissue paper, and were 2 for a penny. A nickle went a long way in those days. :) I remember the peanut butter logs in the jar and they were one of my favorites. You could get a little bag of lemon drops at the 5 and Dime store, that were so good - much better than those today. Probabley because they did not have all the preservatives and mystery ingredients in them. Now days, if you mention lemon drops, a lot think of the drink. :) Well - these are two of those candy jars. These came out of my Father's business. The marbles in the largest jar were from his stock also - with the exception of a few on top. Someone saw my jar of marbles one time and thought I collected them, so brought me some more. :) The smaller jar has a glass lid, and I use it for packs of crackers and such. I know - wallpaper still on my "to do list".


Remember when ginger jars were a hot item. Late 60's & early 70's, seemed like everyone had a ginger jar. This one was a gift, and started out with a top. Converted it to a lamp and kept the top for a long time, but it eventually got broke. That is ok, because I would have kept it as a lamp anyway. Years ago I was in a waiting room, glancing at a magazine and saw one just like mine - also made into a lamp. I don't remember the exact price, but it made me appreciate mine more.

Cloudy, but suppose to be in the lower 70's today - I am waiting!

Snow !!

It was predicted, and the grocery stores were packed Saturday morning, I am sure. I don't drink milk and already had bread so I stayed at home. :-) When a few flurries start falling, the whole area goes into panic mode. However, we had a lot more than a few flurries this time. I took these pictures Saturday afternoon.



Why is the door between me and the snow? IT WAS COLD OUT THERE!



These I took Sunday morning.



Someone said we got about 7 ins. in this immediate area. Not to far from here got only a couple of inches, and a little further North got 12 to 18 inches. So I had to go measure :) - Most places were 5 ins. What ever it was, it was more than enough! My poor azaleas are under there!



Lessons Learned: Get under the umbrella, not off to the side, when trying to lower umbrella so the snow will fall off (snow is very cold & wet on your back). Do not knock off one side at a time, because the weight will shift and umbrella will start to lean. Learn to move VERY fast - hold onto umbrella stand while knocking snow off the opposite side, before the whole thing falls over taking table and all with it. The rest can stay on there for all I care. Most Valuable Lesson Learned: When it starts snowing, lower umbrella - even if it is cold out there! Don't ask me how I know all this!



Poor thing, looks so cold!

Glenda: I don't think I have ever seen the water goblets - bet they are beautiful.

Lynne: These dishes came in oats - however, other kinds of dishes often came in detergent and cereal.

Domestic Designer: I have seen the small glasses and think they are juice glasses.

Rusty Metal:

lvorftiques and Ann: We were not sure if those frames were old. The place had a combination of antique, vintage, new, and reproduction (lots of reproduction).
